The Greatest Thing June 7, 2015
Mary . . . sat at Jesus feet and heard His word.
Luke 10:39
During a church service I spotted an infant several rows ahead. As the baby peeked over his fathers shoulder, his eyes were wide with wonder as he looked at the members of the congregation. He grinned at some people, drooled, and chewed his chunky fingers, but never quite found his thumb. The pastors words grew distant as my eyes kept sliding back to that sweet baby.
Distractions come in all shapes and sizes. For Martha, distraction took the form of cooking and cleaningtrying to serve Christ instead of listening to Him and talking with Him. Mary refused to be sidetracked. Mary . . . sat at Jesus feet and heard His word (Luke 10:39). When Martha grumbled because Mary wasnt helping her, Jesus said, Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her (v. 42 niv).
Jesus words remind us that our relationship with Him is more important than any of the good things that might temporarily capture our attention. It has been said that good things are the enemies of great things. For followers of Jesus, the greatest thing in this life is to know Him and to walk with Him.
What do you think Marthas distractions were? Was she wanting to be seen as a good host? Or was she jealous of her sister? What attitudes cause you not to make Jesus your top priority?
Teach me, Lord, to get to know You, for thats when Ill learn to love You more than anything.
:
The certain village mentioned in Luke 10:38 is Bethany, a small village on the eastern slopes of the Mount of Olives (Mark 11:1), about 2 miles from Jerusalem (John 11:18). It was home to three siblings, Martha, Mary, and Lazarus (Luke 10:38; John 11), and Jesus probably stayed at their home when He was in Jerusalem (Matt. 21:17; 26:6; Mark 11:11; 14:3; John 11:1; 12:1). Bethany was where Lazarus was raised from the dead (John 11) and where Simon the leper held a feast to honor Jesus (Mark 14:3). It is also where Mary anointed Jesus with an expensive perfume to prepare Him for His death (vv. 3-8). Jesus ascension, it is believed, also took place in Bethany (Luke 24:50-52).

Every year the French have a 4 day celebration in Normandy complete with American uniforms, tanks, jeeps and guns. They still honor the Americans who died there....
June 6, 2013, the 69th anniversary of “D-Day”, the largest invasion ever attempted, where 200,000 Americans stormed the beaches at Normandy to begin the final push to defeat Nazi Germany in WWII. D-Day marked the turning point in WWII in Europe... Today, European heads of state make it a point to recall and honor the sacrifices of those who landed in Normandy, as do our Presidents.... well, most of them....
In the 69 years since D-Day, there are four occasions when the President of the United States chose not to visit the D-Day Monument that honors the soldiers killed during the Invasion.
The occasions were:
1. Barack Obama, 2010
2. Barack Obama, 2011
3. Barack Obama, 2012
4. Barack Obama, 2013
For the past 69 years, every American President except Obama have taken the time to honor the memory and sacrifices of the 6,000 American soldiers killed on D-Day. ...Except Obama!
June 6 2010, Obama had no events scheduled.
June 6, 2011, Obama met with the National Security team and was interviewed by WEWS Cleveland and WDIV in Detroit about the auto industry - FAR too busy to visit the D-Day memorial.
June 6, 2012, instead of honoring our fallen soldiers, Obama made a campaign trip to California on Air Force 1 (at our expense) to raise funds for (his) upcoming election.
June 6, 2013, Obama was doing ANOTHER fund raiser with the multimillionaires in the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in Palo Alto, CA, once again at our expense.
Four times in 69 years!!

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.
May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.
May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.
G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.

I woke up with a sore throat so I canceled rehearsal, as I do not want Steve to be exposed to any new germs. He will, however, be in church tomorrow, but he won’t be getting a hug from me!
He has not started the radiation yet, so perhaps his immune system is ok for now, but I don’t want to take any chances.
We will be live streaming the service at this site: (Starts at 11:00AM)
http://churchstreamnetwork.com/windriderchurch/
Steve intends to play, trache, feeding tube, and all.
I have scheduled songs everyone already knows so it shouldn’t be a problem.
Mom is SO excited about my visit this month. I’ll be away from my computer for a week, but I’ll miss you and be thinking of you all!
((((HUGS))))
