When a CNN poll last week showed Hillary Clinton leading Rand Paul by a single percentage point(48-47)and only three points ahead of Marco Rubio(49-46)and Scott Walker(49-46), it was mildly shocking. In April, her lead over the three Republican presidential candidates had been in double digits:Paul(58-39), Rubio(55-41), and Walker(59-37).
But wait. If the next CNN survey shows Clinton actually behind one or two or three of the GOP candidates,it wont be just shocking. It will send Democrats into a near-panic over the possibility of losing the White House in 2016, even with their preferred candidate, Clinton,as nominee.
Such a poll result isnt far-fetched as we watch Clintons campaign deteriorate. True, head-to-head matchups this early in the presidential cycle are almost never predictive. But in this case, its the psychological impact that matters.
That Clintons candidacy is in trouble is indisputable. Shes not threatened with losing the Democratic nominationat least not yet. She has the well-financed Clinton machine and a national network of supporters on which she can rely. The campaigns of her Democratic opponents are small and weak in comparison.
But the rationale for her bid for the presidency, the strategy of her campaign, and the tactics shes adoptedall have failed to stop her steady decline. The expectation of Clintons glide into the White House in 2016 is gone.
...In place of a rationale, theres an assumption that her prominence, her résumé,and the likelihood of her becoming the first woman president would make her a uniquely appealing candidate. They havent. Shes a terrible candidate. She has not only failed to attract big crowds. Shes having trouble raising big money from those described by Politico as rich liberals.
The old adage that opposites attract may apply in her marriage.Bill Clinton is charming, has wonderful political instincts,is a compelling speaker, and has a common touch. She lacks all four. Also,Bill is dynamic. She is lifeless as a candidate...

The typical Republican primary, Cruz said, is composed of 35 percent of self-identified moderates, 15 percent libertarians, 25 percent evangelicals and 25 percent conservative/Tea Partiers.
1) Moderates - Jeb, Christie, Graham, others;
2) libertarians - RandyPaul mostly alone with the mantel of Ron; Cruz competes and maybe Trump;
3) Evangelicals - Huckabee, Santorum, Carson, Perry ... and Cruz will compete well here too; and
4) Conservatives/Tea Party - Cruz has a strong lead and he owns this bracket; Walker is in here too.
And then shrewdly, Cruz states that neither Walker or Rubio have a natural constituency and are trying to compete in each bracket as less than the #1 seed.
I do hope that Senator Cruz is intentionally misrepresenting some of the percentages above. It's scary if that is accurate.
And I do believe that Senator Cruz will be very smart, both strategically and tactically. And I agree with Lakeshark that Rubio is a threat. He can compete in all four brackets, especially if he becomes the gOpE's last best hope.
I hope their panic is justified. If they’re in panic today, I hope they’re in hopeless despair on election night 2016.
I’d take another William Tecumseh Sherman.
I took your meaning and understand, but the cartoon drives the point home, how the media hold her up - what could be more opposite from the emotions of the true event?
No offense was meant to you in my remark.
I wonder what’s in her medicine cabinet.
If Paul goes 3rd party then that scenario puts a Clinton in the WH for the 3rd time.
Will Paul be the Clintons’ Ross Perot?
I find it offensive
The cartoon has no relationship to Iwo Jima. Instead, it is a play on every attempt to re-erect the fallen statue of a dictator -- e.g., Stalin, Mao, Mussolini, Hussein, etc.
Lighten up.
Precisely one of the reasons the Clintons have such loyal supporters...rank and file Democrats despise Republicans....they love the Clintons b/c they know how to beat Republicans.
Morning Joe ran a clip of Mark Halperin seated with dedicated Dem voters asking them to name a single accomplishment of Hillary in the State Department.
The silence was deafening. Not one could name a single accomplishment.
The all said they didn't care about that or about the Clinton corruption. They said that they support Hillary because the Clinton's always beat Republicans at everything, and because Hillary is a strong woman.
So many liberals on Free Republic on Saturdays. All intent on controlling how I feel.
Not even the original poster expresses a concern over changing my feelings.
Look at Post #85.
I don’t give a damn about your feelings.
You mean that beautiful posed picture, taken after the actual event occurred? Get over yourself.
The image offends. Why would I want further analysis of it? Why would I have a discussion?
I think a lot of people accept that they are going to view offensive entertainment and people and then tell themselves how to feel, and tell others around them how to feel, including their kids.
A lot of people don’t seem to think to simply avoid disturbing or offensive things, so they don’t know how to deal with people who say they are offended and who refuse to back down.
In staying informed, finding the news, etc., one is exposed to offensive things, and in this case, meant to be funny.
Freedom of speech allows people to post things others might find offensive.
But it does not provide that others must like what’s being expressed.
Contrary, it provides the viewer with the right to say ‘I find it offensive’.
Well. After fifteen flames in two pages of posts, and not one defending the honor given to the flag, you are not alone in your nasty cynicism.
You and the hajis seem to have something in common.
I’m allowed to express my feelings. You Sharon’s haven’t taken over yet
Well his Super PAC does have money. And yes, he’s very likable, very telegenic and the youngest looking (not sure if he’s the youngest) candidate in the bunch (FWIW)
I agree that Cruz is a bit off on his percentages, and maybe intentionally. I agree with your analysis of each group too.
