SURVEILLANCE POWERS LAPSE WITH NO DEAL IN SENATE

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The National Security Agency lost its authority at midnight to collect Americans' phone records in bulk, after GOP Sen. Rand Paul stood in the way of extending the fiercely contested program in an extraordinary Sunday Senate session.

But that program and several other post-Sept. 11 counter-terror measures look likely to be revived in a matter of days. With no other options, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, in an about-face, reluctantly embraced a House-passed bill that would extend the anti-terror provisions, while also remaking the bulk phone collections program.

Although the lapse in the programs may be brief, intelligence officials warned that it could jeopardize Americans' safety and amount to a win for terrorists. But civil liberties groups applauded as Paul, who is running for president, forced the expiration of the once-secret program made public by NSA contractor Edward Snowden, which critics say is an unconstitutional intrusion into Americans' privacy.

I am so skeptical nowadays with anything our Congress does; they just don't seem to represent us anymore.

I want what is best for America.

So what is it?

On this, I stand with Rand.
Oh, and McCain is pissed?
Well, that’s just gravy on the biscuit.

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., complained to reporters that Paul places “a higher priority on his fundraising and his ambitions than on the security of the nation.”

Is it a $1 Trillion to support NSA to gather info on ALL of us, when in fact, that system hasn’t netted or stopped even one terrorist or terrorist attack?

If that’s true, then I think $1 Trillion is much better SAVED & taken off the borrowing sheet and printing press.

How long until they light up the Reichstag?

This sets up an environment that is IDEAL for a ‘False Flag’!

... I dunno .... With this current administrations past record and considering who the prez isconnected to .....

.... I can’t help but think that this thing is a setup. A pretext for a coming event with the then powerful ability to play the ultimate Blame Game like it has never been played before that may well determine the outcome of the next federal election.

..... Then there is all of the Jade Helm activity that spikes my spidey senses. All is not as it seems.

.... Color me concerned.

I work in the Pentagon. And I can tell you what is best for our country, isn't happening. The best thing for us is to NAME our enemy. That way we are not committing resources collecting on everyone: we are targeting those who philosophically cannot stand with us.

If that means having a national debate on Islam, then so be it. The only person who would have such a debate isn't running: Allen West.

I share your very same thoughts. Let’s pray we’re wrong.

What better way to silence and end the Libertarian Party, and supporters who associate the TEA PARTY with the Paul’s??

Whatever. I HIGHLY doubt the NSA stopped snooping because of no “law” in place. They’re still doing what they are doing with the Congress’ silent blessing. And even if they DID stop snooping after the lapse...you can rest assured they are doing data archiving so they can go snoop at it once all this gets cleared up.

If that deranged dementia-infected jackass of a political whore is upset, then whatever made him upset must be the right thing to do. I am no fan of rand Paul; but John McCain is a back-stabbing cowardly little weasel, with fetid turds for brains.

You are correct Nelson. None of these clowns care about the law. They lie so consistently and under oath with no possibility of prosecution I can’t understand why Congress pretends to authorize anything.

How much damage and what kind can be done during 3 days without this security coverage?

Time to accept the fact that the government is not concerned about protecting us, but is dedicated to protect itself from us.

There was plenty of intelligence to prevent 911, Ft. Hood and Boston Marathon, but they didn't. Why?

Meanwhile, they still want to know every little factoid about law-abiding citizens. You do the math.

NONE! A ruse is being set-up and a named congresscritter and media is echoing what was the obama/hillary excuse ... a video caused it. If anything happens there are government officials involved .... more than likely.

I was wondering the same thing. Time to punish those who would put brakes on the government.

If McCain is so worried about national security how about getting those borders tightened up. We know terrorists are coming in that way.

I think this isn’t so much about national security as it is the government retaining it’s power to gather massive amounts of information on it’s own citizens. For not so noble purposes.

Now that the NSA isn’t able to tell whether or not I was watching Game of Thrones tonight, the terrorists win.

...or is it the drug cartels? I can never keep this straight.

...OK... It could be online gambling that wins. Yes, that’s it. Online gambling wins if the NSA can’t see whether or not I watched Game of Thrones tonight.

...or video piracy.
