“I read that bees are not native to North America.”

Mason (aka Orchard) bees are native...solitary, pollinators, no honey.

I was hoping someone would mention mason bees. They are proven better pollinators and anyone can have a small mason bee house - not bigger than a bird house- in their yard. you can hang it up on a garage or shed. There is a great short documentary on a website called Growingagreenerworld.com. I saw it last summer. Well worth watching. We kept 5 honey bee hives for years, it is work. Plus we didn’t need all that honey.
