... f State, County and Municipal Employees in response to the civil unrest in late April and early May after the death of Freddie Gray from injuries suffered in police custody. The organizers targeted the neighborhoods of West Baltimore, where Gray was arrested. AFSCME Maryland has done voter registration efforts before, but the unrest "put it into hyperdrive," said Patrick Moran, president of the union group.
On Saturday, the ASFSCME members had more luck elsewhere, registering 22 new voters. One of them was 18-year-old Brandi Womack, who was set to graduate from Carver Vocational-Technical High on Sunday.
Womack, whose mother, Dishawn Smith, was one of the 27 AFSCME volunteers, said some of her friends are interested in voting, while others are less so.
"If I let them know that I had registered, maybe they could make a change with their voice, too," Womack said.
Smith, who said she had been registered to vote since she was a teenager, added: "I think Brandi wants to see a change within the youth. They feel like they have no outlet."

The did the same in Ferguson. They claimed thousands of new voters but only produced dozens of votes.
Criminals vote inside the jail so why not outside.
Just an effort to further entrench decades of liberal rule and failed policies behind this mess.
Mob violence works just fine. Why waste time at the ballot box?
...and this is going to change the outcome of elections in Baltimore how?
If only there were more democrats in office, things might never have escalated so.
LOL more votes for the same number of democrats.
yep..what’s the campaign slogan? “Mo of duh same...mo of duh same...”
I'm pretty sure D's occupy around 100% of the elected offices in the city of Baltimore. Not sure how you go up from there.
Jury Offices use the statewide voter registration list and the Motor Vehicle Administration lists of people with driver’s licenses or identification cards (and sometimes other lists) to get the names of prospective jurors.
It makes a difference in statewide elections.
Yesterday I watched a demonstration yesterday on the news; Puerto Ricans were marching to have a terrorist freed from jail. Their signs had union info on them; “union” today has become synonymous with “minority”.
Kinda funny that unions were once very racist and often advertized products made by whites.
which will also be “mo of duh same” vis a vis Baltimore....
Yeah cause Baltimore might vote republican
They were different unions; the most active ones today are those representing low- or unskilled workers. Outside of public-sector unions, they are probably the only ones with any political clout at all. Unions like Teamsters may have money, but their membership isn’t voting in lockstep as the low-information workers in SEIU are.
Dollars to donuts all these union thugs are being paid by the taxpayer are on the clock...
All Public sector unions need to be "Walkerized"
