Sen. Marco Rubio will not participate in the Iowa Straw Poll, his campaign team confirmed Saturday.
The Florida senator and 2016 hopefuls decision marks the latest blow to the August event long considered a staple on the Republican road to the presidential nomination. Jeb Bush, Sen. Lindsey Graham and Mike Huckabee have all said they wont participate this cycle. Many, including Gov. Scott Walker and Sen. Rand Paul, have yet to signal if they will attend.

Good. This stupid exercise in vote buying needed to end a long time ago.

OK. There must be a problem here. Anyone know just what that problem is?

The media likes to replace this event in the news and using the results as the official Iowa Caucus result that picks delegates - how many times have you heard that Pat Robertson “won” the Iowa Caucuses...well, he didn’t - no where near. He did, however, win this “straw poll.”

I smell an Establishment rat. They dare not kick-off the campaign with an establishment wipe-out causing a potential trend that might become a tidal wave.

PRESS RELEASE
Ted Cruz Florida Grassroots Victory Team

==============================
Ted Cruz crushes Marco Rubio in Tea Party Vote (65-10%) in Florida Political Tsunami
Ted Cruz : 65 %
Mike Huckabee : 15 %
Marco Rubio : 10%
Scott Walker : 5 %
Ben Carson: 5 %
U.S. Senator Ted Cruz's momentum in the "must win" Florida battleground makes powerful strides, and serious questions arise concerning the political weakness of Marco Rubio, Florida's disappointing "Favorite Son".
The Tampa 9-12 Tea Party group presented the Ted Cruz national and Florida campaigns with a tremendous 65% to 10% victory Marco Rubio this past Tuesday evening (2015-05-26).
Washington Beltway Political Analysts are confounded by the clear emerging Florida pattern where Ted Cruz consistently defeats or narrowly ties Marco Rubio.
On Tuesday a week ago, Ted Cruz statistically tied Marco Rubio (30.4 % to 30.7%) at the "Florida Family Policy Council" Presidential Straw Poll Vote in Orlando (see photo below).
Marco Rubio's presidential prospects appear ominous, and clearly, Rubio's major financial donors understandably view these two Florida Straw Poll defeats with concern.
The news is even worse for Florida Senator Marco Rubio.
Experienced Florida campaign observers increasingly believe that Rubio's surprise decision for a presidential run is possibly based on internal Florida polling that showed that Marco Rubio faced a 2016 re-election defeat.
Why ?
Florida's Tea Party groups were a decisive factor in Marco Rubio's razor-thin GOP Florida U.S. Senate victory in 2010.
These same Florida Tea Party groups (across the entire state of Florida) have indicated a dangerous "ABM" attitude (Anybody But Marco).
Simply put, Florida's Tea Party groups are enraged at Marco Rubio's alleged political betrayal over his support of the infamous "Gang of Eight" illegal immigrants' amnesty bill, where Rubio allied himself with New York Senator Chuck Schumer.
Time will certainly tell if Senator Ted Cruz continues his rising wave of Florida grassroots political support.
In the meantime, Marco Rubio's national campaign team and major financial donors are watching Ted Cruz's Florida political momentum with growing concern.

He must not be ready and will lose. But the poll never does reflect the results in the caucus because all the months in between changes the race.

No offense to any Iowans but why does this rather small state deserve all the attention it gets.....the results of it’s straw polls and caucuses really doesn’t pretend anything. Why politicians put such efforts in them is a mystery to me!!!

It’s not considered a “staple on the Republican road to the presidential nomination”.
From another thread:
The Iowa/Ames Straw Poll was always just a party. They only started discouraging multiple votes and bused-in non-residents the last three cycles.
The 2007 was a political junkies fiasco, with most candidates skipping it and Ron Paul spinning conspiracy theories about Diebold voting machines.
The 2011 fleeced the candidates pretty good, but left a bad taste the Iowa Straw Poll is trying to overcome. Romney didnt bother being there, and eventual second place national delegate finisher (and Iowa Caucus winner) Santorum came in a poor fourth.
