Survey: Democrats hope to face hard-liner Cruz and not Latino-friendly Bush

Not that they have much say in the matter, but if it were up to Democrats, they would like to see Texas Sen. Ted Cruz on the presidential ticket to face their nominee.

According to a survey of more than a dozen Democratic lawmakers, former members and strategists conducted by The Hill, Democrats believe that Cruz – a fiercely conservative Texan known for pushing buttons both in and outside of the Beltway – would alienate independent voters along with forcing liberals to the polls and give Hillary Clinton, or whoever is the Democratic nominee, the best shot at winning the presidency.

"I don't [dispute] that Cruz is a force — he's demonstrated that — but he's the force that we'd like to see," Connecticut Rep. John Larson told The Hill. "He's a very talented and capable person, but his path to ascendency is to take them further right than they already are, and in order for them to win, they've got to be center-right."

On the opposite side of the spectrum, Democrats say their biggest worry as a threat to their push for the White House is former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. While the brother of former President George W. Bush has not yet officially declared that he is running for president, he is expected to do so soon. And many believe his appeal among Latino voters – thanks in large part to his moderate views on immigration – could help him win in key states such as Colorado, Nevada and Florida.

“Not that they have much say in the matter,”

Yeah right, open primaries and a scumbag media. They have plenty of say in the matter.

Uh oh...I agree with Democrats. I'm conflicted.

Al Gore wanted Ronald Reagan to get the 1980 nomination, as he thought he would be easy to beat.

The first correct Democrat decision in 50 years!

They keep underestimating Cruz. Do they think he’s a Lazio?

Exactly.

The demonstrable winning route IS to be a “hard liner”,
as in, asserting conservative principles as superior,
and explaining why.

Yeah, OK dems. Be careful what you wish for, as they say. Despite his Hispanic connections and family, Bush will be EASY for the dems to paint as this rich, patrician, privileged, white dude, who doesn’t care about “people like us”.

The Democrats are probably donating to Jeb’s campaign, too. Close all open GOP primaries, because the Democrats will be voting for Jeb, the Thad Cochran strategy. That’s how the GOPe cheaters eliminate conservatives.

Fox News is owned by Rupert Murdoch: an Aussie who married a Chinese communist, supports Hillary Clinton, and likes Jeb Bush.

This is less to do with Cruz’ supposedly far-right stances and much more to do with the Bush name and the easy pushover that the mushy middle Jeb will be for the Dems!!

DNC, media, pundits, etc... all swore Reagan couldn’t win! He was WAY TOO conservative!!

If the Democrats love Jeb Bush so much why don’t they nominate him on their ticket? We don’t want him and he’s completely compatible with their platform.

In the meantime let’s all beg those rascally Democrats not to ruin our chances by voting for Cruz in open primaries. “Oh please, please - don’t throw us in the Cruz patch - anything but that!!!”

What's funny is Cruz IS Latino, and Bush is not.

But for the record:

-- If Romney had won 71 percent of the Hispanic vote, he still would have lost. If he'd gotten just 4 percent more of the white vote, he would have won.

"Latino-friendly" is not the path to victory.
