Marine court-martialed for refusing to remove Bible verse
Fox News ^ | May 2, 2015 | Todd Starnes

A United States Marine was convicted at a court-martial for refusing to remove a Bible verse on her computer – a verse of Scripture the military determined “could easily be seen as contrary to good order and discipline.”

The plight of Lance Corporal Monifa Sterling seems unbelievable – a member of the Armed Forces criminally prosecuted for displaying a slightly altered passage of Scripture from the Old Testament: “No weapon formed against me shall prosper.”

Sterling, who represented herself at trial, was convicted February 1, 2014 in a court-martial at Camp Lejune, North Carolina after she refused to obey orders from a staff sergeant to remove the Bible verses from her desk.

[snip] Berry said the supervisor cursed at Sterling and ordered her to immediately remove the verses. She refused the order. The following day, she discovered the verses had been removed and thrown in the trash.

The military is increasingly worried about Christians in their midst.

Christians, stay out of the military until it has an exorcism to remove the demons.

“court-martial?”
this is a crime?
How about the bastard who quoted the towelhead indoctrination book and them killed his fellow soldiers?
Something wrong here. The administration is using the military to further the policy of eliminating Christianity.

Isaiah 54:17 (KJV)

17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.

“There is more to this story than what is printed here...........”

Yup. It appears that there was long-running bad blood between the Marine and her supervisor, and that the Marine repeatedly refused to abide by her supervisor’s orders. The bible verses were just one example.

I especially love that verse because it is from the Old Testament and thus shows the commonality with our Judeo-Christian Heritage which ObaMao seeks to replace with his new state religion.

Military personnel leave democracy at the door for their own lifestyle when the volunteer for service. They are not allowed to proselytize while in uniform.

The experience of being told I’m going to hell if I don’t convert to a particular Protestant religion or at least put the beer down, by a fellow someone in uniform was far more oppressive and obnoxious than I’d have thought. And absolutely against ucmj.

The priest had it right on base at mass the day Reagan died. ‘Reagan was a laser catholic. Divorced and remarried outside the church. But he always worked to defend the freedom for us to practice religion and for that, as commander in chief, he is to be honored and well remembered ‘

Time in this world is short. Time in the next is everlasting.

If this story is true, as written, then her room is ready and waiting for her.

But what about the people and the nation who did this to her?

They have chosen...poorly.

Their rooms currently look like they'll be vacant.

Although I think there is probably more to this story, based on what I have read, her supervisor gave an unlawful order. And in the military, we are trained to NOT OBEY unlawful orders!

Plainly stated, There is NO reason THAT bible verse could be considered a problem, especially not in the military!! I could understand if it were a verse about the abomination of homosexuality (since everyone gets to play soldier now), but Isiah speaking of weapons not harming you (while in the military) cannot be construed as “controversial!”

This is at least the third time this article has been posted. And if the Marine refused to obey a lawful order, then I have no sympathy.

What if you got a Marine in combat who suddenly decides that he or she cannot kill the enemy?

They are not allowed to proselytize while in uniform.

Except for that "So help me God" thingy in the Oath and, funny enough, during a Court Martial proceeding when swearing in a witness/accused. I actually don't see where what she did was proselytizing.

That being said, it appears she and her supervising NCO have been at odds for a while. She sounds like maybe she was a problem child, and used the modified verse as a way to claim discrimination.

She was convicted of court martial for disobeying a lawful order. The facts are that she has a personal item posted on a government computer and she was ordered to remove it. She refused. The religious content is totally irrelevant.

Is anyone saying that some Marine has any right whatsoever to place personal information on a government computer? And if so, does it require permission by the owner of the computer?

As for the Marine, I would be very surprised to discover that she wasn’t offer Article 15 punishment or offered a discharge in lieu of court martial. I think she was and she was refused in order to have a cause. She’s going to have to live with the consequences of her personal decisions.

The facts are that she has a personal item posted on a government computer and she was ordered to remove it.

If it were strictly a personal item, then the military had no case against her - as the story states that evidence that would show other Marines had personal items at their workstations was suppressed in this case.

I'm not taking sides in this one, as I don't have enough information to go by. That being said, the Oath we say upon entering the service, and also a swearing in of witnesses and the accused during a Court Martial proceeding both contain the phrase "So help me God", or at least they did when I was in. I'd like them to explain that one at the same time they're crawling all over this Marine.

"Reagan was a laser Catholic"

Looks like your spellcheck turned "lapsed" into "laser"? :o)

Anyhow, Reagan was not raised Catholic. His father was apparently a "lapsed Catholic." Young Ron was baptized in the Disciples of Christ, his mother's denomination.

You are trying to make this a religious case. It’s not. The Marine Corps owns the computer, everything on that machine is subject to the approval of the USMC.

Then why was it stated that the prosecution suppressed evidence of other Marines having items on their workstations? Like I said, there is more to this. I'm just questioning the religious angle. I honestly think she's hiding behind religion, and that she has other issues. My concern is that evidence to the contrary of the prosecution's position may have been suppressed.
