Ted Cruz, the junior U.S. senator from Texas and first official contender for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, compared people who think that the climate is warming to "flat-Earthers" and described himself as a modern-day Galileo in an interview with the Texas Tribune.
"On the global warming alarmists, anyone who actually points to the evidence that disproves their apocalyptical claims, they don't engage in reasoned debate," Cruz said in an interview with reporter Jay Root on Tuesday. "What do they do? They scream, 'You're a denier.' They brand you a heretic. Today, the global warming alarmists are the equivalent of the flat-Earthers. It used to be [that] it is accepted scientific wisdom the Earth is flat, and this heretic named Galileo was branded a denier."
Root noted that Cruz's disbelief that the planet is warming puts him out of step with younger voters. But Cruz dug in.
"I'm a big believer that we should follow the science, and follow the evidence. If you look at global warming alarmists, they don't like to look at the actual facts and the data. The satellite data demonstrate that there has been no significant warming whatsoever for 17 years," said Cruz. "Now that's a real problem for the global warming alarmists. Because all those computer models on which this whole issue is based predicted significant warming, and yet the satellite data show it ain't happening."
While the argument that the satellite data does not show temperatures rising is a favorite among climate deniers, it represents a skewed view on what we know about temperatures conditions on Earth. Average global temperatures are still increasing, just not as quickly as they did in previous years, largely due to ocean cycles. And claiming that a pause disputes that warming is occurring ignores

63 years watching the Earth’s weather change, fron NewEngland
blizzards, to hurrivsnes; from Southeast asian dry spells
to monsoons; Southern Cal 1980’s droughts, range fires,
and winter Alaskan storms that came south, to the
very humid Louisiana summers, Hurricane Katrina, Rita,
and Gustav, up close and personal.
Global alarmists are telling fairy tales, to make laws,
make taxes, and silence those using free speech, to
call it crap!
> They remind me of the time people believed the sun revolved around the earth. Deny the facts and support a theory that glorifies your own ideology.
The global warmists believe that the earth’ moon, and stars revolve around them...
An evaluation of rising temperatures is at best a superficial statement. The atmosphere DOES have a vertical dimension. It isn’t just latitude and longitude. And bodies of water (and of ice) have depths.
Until something grapples successfully with these additional factors, anthropogenic climate change fears remain only that, fears. I fear poisonous snakes too, but that does not mean I have a basis to conclude that my yard is full of them.
And attempt to silence anyone who says otherwise.
nah, he’s not confusing it - he’s turning the precise argument they use right around on them....
Flat earters. I like it. :-)
go ted go...
...and then claim WE’RE the anti science religious nuts....
Or infinitely thin atmospherers. (Ever notice no VERTICAL component of the claimed temp data?)
Warmist cultists are the new Climate Scientologists. Are you “cool” yet?
yep, just like he did with his response to the “do you have animus towards gay people” question by asking the idiot reporter if he “had animus towards Christians” - PER FECTO.
‘Global Warming Alarmists Are The Equivalent Of The Flat-Earthers’
I mean, for a long time it WAS the consensus.
Like I tell my idealistic nephew and nieces: “The earth warms up, the earth cools down”. It drives them nuts. :-)
Possible labels: Global Warming hoaxers.
Global Warming suckers.
“We need to invent a brand new word to describe the unbelievable moronic belief in AGW.”
Morons?
Well I know that boys and girls are different sexes and that an X or Y chromosome is the determining factor.
You close minded intolerant religious zealot you.......:)
>>We need to invent a brand new word to describe the unbelievable moronic belief in AGW.<<
Actually, we need to do exactly what Cruz did. We need to require them to stick with their first assertion, i.e., “global warming.” They want to switch terminology now that the pause in warming has become so obvious, using “climate change,” and even “climate disruption.” Cruz correctly labels them global warmers and tacks on “alarmist” for good measure, since that’s clearly what they are.
So throw “global warming alarmist” at them at every opportunity. It’s exactly what they are, and it drives them nuts to hear it stated directly. Try it; you’ll like it.
Ironically Ted is so good on most stuff that some people get tripped up when he makes a political move that is counterintuitive, if not unwise. The trade fast tracking might be one such move.
I’d agree, don’t “trust in Ted” but do trust in God, the same one that Ted trusts in. And if Ted does make a mistake, PRAY for literal God’s sake. If we are too wimpy to make “In God We Trust” more than a slogan, then we might as well be honest and ditch the slogan. Heaven is kinder to honest sinners than to pretend saints.
Exactly, and Ted's point as well. They are just constructing a straw man to redirect, or because they are too stupid to see his point, probably the latter.
