Leherer is a little bit before my time, so I’m kind of surprised by some of the stuff he touched on. Pretty tame for nowadays, but do you know if his material raised any eyebrows in 1960? I know Lenny Bruce was performing around that same time frame, so maybe he set the standard for others. Maybe I shouldn’t be so surprised - I remember watching Buddy Hackett on HBO and he was pretty salty for an old timer... funny, but salty.
From the BSofA rulebook:
Separate accommodations for adults and Scouts required. When camping, no youth is permitted to sleep in the tent of an adult other than his or her own parent or guardian. Councils are strongly encouraged to have separate shower and latrine facilities for females. When separate facilities are not available, separate times for male and female use should be scheduled and posted for showers. Likewise, youth and adults must shower at different times.
This just in, NABMLA has announced it’s merging with the Boy Scouts of America to form the Rump Rangers.
Don’t anyone get me wrong, I’m using black humor here because the alternative is for me to punch the computer screen.

My personal experience is that there have always been gay men in Boy Scouts. My Dad and other leaders pretty much beat the crap out of one in the early seventies.
And herein lies the real reason for this problem: there are no more Dads in the Boy Scouts. A couple of our local troops are run almost entirely by women. The women who run the troops “understand” the queers and are not threatened by them. So that is why this is happening.
Men need to stand up and get involved with their sons.
Romney was all about influencing the Boy Scouts to de-emphasis their anti-gay policies.
That was my memory of the situation.
Is that memory faulty?
Boys are not allowed to share tents with unrelated men.
I quit the Boy Scouts in 1954 (I was 13) because the Scoutmaster was teaching my fellow scouts the “joys” of homosexual behavior on one of our camping trips.
I chose not to participate, and you might say that that experience “colored” my view of homosexuals!
Homosexuality is a perversion!
And one is not born homosexual — one is seduced or forced into that behavior!

There are also scout alternates now.
I am not sure Boy Scouts was founded with the notion of scouting out boys.
A general God to which to be “reverent” is not going to hold a candle to Jesus Christ either. It’s too easy to recast that general “God.”
I think all you need is one screw-up where some 40-year old guy rapes a 11-year old kid. Just apply the law, and put the guy in general prison population and let the system work the way it should. Then turn around as the family and sue the guy’s estate (I’d figure $2 million is a good start), and then sue the BSOA for around $20 million for not providing protection. Basically...the prison system will fix one problem and the legal system will help to destroy BSOA. Out of the eventual ashes....BSOA will get fixed.

When we moved to Jacksonville in 1955, I refused to join BSA, despite the urgings of my parents. My mom and dad never knew why.

The Bible says that God turn sinners over to their own evil devices which destroys them. He does not have to destroy them; His punishment is getting out of the way or removing His hand of protection.
With this happening in the Boy Scouts, any parent that puts their son in that institution is basically giving the okay for the rape of their minor sons. There is no denying it and the only victims will be the children. The parents should be arrested with the pedophile.
Its all about the money, even to Gates. All the corporate sponsers are pulling out of the boy scouts unless they go homosexual, its money and power once again.
