A new Pew Research Center poll shows that America is unhappy with the GOP led Congress. In fact, Americans are disgusted as Republican congressional leaders only registered a 22% overall approval rating.
What is especially significant is that the poll shows this anger is bi-partisan. Only 41% of Republicans approve of the performance of the GOP congressional leadership. This is much lower than the 60% approval rating GOP leaders received in 2011 and the 78% approval rating they received from Republicans in 1995, months after the party took control of Congress for the first time in 40 years.
There is a major difference between the congressional leaders of today and those at the helm in 1995. During that era, Newt Gingrich was Speaker of the House. In the November 1994 elections, Americans sent Republicans to Congress with a mission, enact the Contract with America. Led by Gingrich, the Congress was actually able to get some tangible goals accomplished by moving then President Bill Clinton to the right. As a result, Clinton signed into law bills that lowered capital gains taxes and established welfare reform. Even more miraculous, a significant budget surplus was created.
Gingrich was an unabashed conservative, who truly believed in the concepts of lower taxes and less government. Unfortunately, today, the GOP leadership in Congress, specifically Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker John Boehner, are typical establishment Republicans who have been on Capitol Hill too long. They are opposed to the Tea Party and true conservatives and have no interest in real reform or following the wishes of grassroots Republicans.

Boehner and McConnell are being weakened. All the battles we and the Tea Party have been worth the effort. They wanted to "crush" us. But we are making their lives VERY difficult. They are being forced to fight just to get reelected, and are being forced to join with democrats to get legislation passed, which makes them look even weaker.
On to 2016!
Lose faith?
I object, that implies I had some to begin with.
Numbers seem a little high to me.
Ditto, that.
The Congress is not supposed to be popular!
Individual representatives and Senators can be popular, but as an organization, it is their job to exercise their duty and legislate for things that, often, a majority of the country does not agree with. They also have to block things the Executive does (which might be very popular) for the good of the country.
It is why we are a Representative Republic, not a pure Democracy. In a pure Democracy, majority rules. Heck, everyone wants no taxes and full government services and would vote for that given the opportunity. Of course, that is impossible. So, legislators have to be the bearer of bad news - we need money to provide services. And we decide what services are truly needed. Who is going to be popular with that? (Oversimplification, yes; but you get the point.)
The whole narrative about the popularity of Congress is laughable. False premise. I don’t want them popular, I want them to be responsible, or as close as divided Government can be. (No comment on current state of affairs, but much better than a few years ago!)
I agree, in part. We are making their lives harder but unfortunately they are still achieving their goals. BTW we get to 2017 with a new congress and a new white house occupaant, the damage will not be reversible IMO. O care will be with us forever now, even in a watered down version, Cuba will be as it was before the embargo, the “trade agreement” will bring more than just free trade unless you count immigrants as free to roam here, there will be no stop to the illegal immigrant flow either and lastly, the coming regs for energy and enviormental matters will be firmly in place too all in the name of getting along.
When that POS McConnell got reelected from KY and Bonehead was put back in charge of the House, the die was set. The only step remaining is a choice between Article V or a replay of 1861. Nothing else will save the Republic.
Just now??? Someone finally woke them up?
Wow.
“Boehner and McConnell are being weakened.”
Only in the public’s mind. McConnell, with the help of Cruz, Rubio, and Cotton, the warrior patriot, along with most of the Republican senators, eagerly betrayed their country.
They are being forced to fight just to get reelected

True but they are still in their respective positions of “leadership” because they are supported by many other like-minded Republicans. This fact should not be overlooked. This is a problem WITHIN the entire party which enables the likes of Boehner, McConnell, and their lieutenants. There is deep seated rot in the GOP.
I am totally disgusted with the Republican leadership of today and have said so on numerous occasions.
Back when the Republican party actually was conservative, I supported their efforts and those who were supposedly representing what would be best for our country.
No longer supporting a “party” (The Republican party) my attentions, and to be more specific, my FUNDS are directed to an individual. I guess you could suggest I am a far right “independent”, if there is such a thing. If I DID support any specific group, it would probably be the Tea Party.
Anytime I receive a phone call from someone representing a “republican” candidate, my message is the same. NO, and I explain why.
“True but they are still in their respective positions of leadership because they are supported by many other like-minded Republicans.”
Yes, that’s true, but being politicians, they’re always looking to the next election. And in the last one, they saw Graham get through his primary with only 55%, then Cochran 50%, then Alexander 48%, then Roberts 47%.
They’ll have to start voting conservative real quick to get reelected, and voting conservative means bucking McConnell (or appearing to).
Thanks to the Tea Party, life in Washington is not as easy as it used to be. And I’ll bet we hear about more retirements before long.
I can’t remember the last time I had faith in GOP leadership.
However, GOP leadership through the years has gone from bad to
very worse.
I am going with Rand Paul all the way...I think its time we look at the Rats and the Pubs and say:
“See ya, don't wanna be with ya”
I'm not happy with Cruz, I don't trust Rubio even if I followed his every step; I sick of Bush, Clinton, and if Moosebutt decides she's important, I hope they crush her like a bug, and NO WAY with any of the others....
So I'm going ‘tin hat’ as they say and I want a third party involved so Rand Paul ya got my vote!!!
the rest of these comments show why the GOP is failing............
To my mind, you could line them up against a wall and offer them one last cigarette. We’d never miss them.
Yep, we’ve lost faith in the leaders that THEY APPOINTED. Useless bunch of “SPINELESS WHORES”. Put all those “REPUBLICAN LEADERS” together, and you won’t find a “PAIR” among them. These candy asses are so afraid of the Lame Stream Media, and what they’ll say about them, that they’ve become the mouth piece of OBAMA. You can’t shame them, because they are shameless. In Spanish they would be called “SIN VERGUENZA”. Unfortunately, the only way we can get rid of them is if they die, because come election time, all you’ll hear from them is how “CONSERVATIVE” they are, and the stupid voters believe them.
The Republican “leadership” has sold us out for many years now. And it didn’t start in 1981 with Howard Henry Baker, mentor of Lamar!, saying that “social issues” must take a back seat to “the economy” and thhe “riverboat gamble”. I can’t even remember all the treachery of his predecessor, Hugh Scott.
The Republicans use their own as Leaders and stop renting them from the Democrats
This “popularity” isn’t general popularity one would think of as in “populism”. It is better described as a targeted populism in a cloistered environment of dilettantes, elites and poweratti that consists of DC politicians, DC and national MSM of the ‘standards and programs of record’ kind, and the sycophants and DC suckerfish that feed on OUR blood.
They could give a flying crap about what you or I think except when every 2 or 6 years rolls around and they have to come back home and lie their ass off again.
