SONS OF CONFEDERATE VETERANS TO REPLACE FLAGS AT UNION SPRINGS
Gary Carlyle, Commander of the Alabama Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, announced today that at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning, May 23rd, the SCV will replace the memorial flags which were recently removed from a Confederate cemetery in Union Springs, Alabama by an individual in that town.
In a statement, Carlyle said that he wished to thank Mayor Saint T. Thomas, Jr. and the City Council of Union Springs for working together with the Sons of Confederate Veterans on the restoration project.
"The Mayor and the Council have been very understanding and co-operative with us," said Carlyle. "He has been very helpful in making this happen."
Ben Jones, Chief of Heritage Operations for the 30,000 member Sons of Confederate Veterans, an international organization of men who are directly descended from those who fought for the Confederacy, praised the Mayor for "taking a clear stance for healing and reconciliation."
"The removal of these flags from the graves of our ancestors was a terribly wrong-headed, provocative and divisive action," said Jones. "No amount of political sanctimony can excuse it. Our membership asks that this ceremony on Saturday will be given the respect and reverence it deserves by all. We are grateful for the leadership of Mayor Thomas during this time, and we are hopeful that the event will take place in an atmosphere of reflection and genuine understanding. "
Do we put the flags of former enemies on their graves in our country? I would imagine there are som POW graves or British soldiers in the country? While I would think a swastika would be inappropriate, I would have no issue with a German flag, nor the Union Jack. Nor would I think putting a CSA flag on their graves to be an issue.
I had ancestors who fought in that war. None owned a slave. They were too busy making a living for their families. Sometimes that included several generations. The wife of a cousin and I have done loads of research which back up that statement. My great grandfather could not fight due to a physical disability so he made shoes for the soldiers from his area of MS. I was reading a story a few weeks ago. A very small percentage owned slaves and that included blacks. Do some research.
Oh really?
Kiss my GA grits you ignernt troll.
Bump.

Like I said, the idiot is a hit and run troll libtard.
Looks like the imbecile won;t be coming back to the forum.
maybe do a little homework from now on before you comment. it’ll save you some embarrassment for not knowing your history.
Yes when the SHTF he will be in the first die off as he probably does not have an extra can of chili in the pantry. :-)
Hey darlin
I missed your post.
They fought for this battle flag , they have a right to be represented by this flag.
History is written by the victors, even if it is politcally insensative, and NOT politically correct.
I am not a troll , but I believe that those who died for the purpose of this flag , have the right to present their ideology, regardless of who won .
In the South , they call it the " war of Northern aggression" despite their attack on the North at Fort Sumpter.
They were all Americans , who fought for what they thought was rightous... States rights vs. Secession from the Union .
If the North was so righteous , why did they wait so long to free the slaves under Lincoln and the Emacipation Proclamation, way late in the war , if you ask me .
in order to present a two front system for the Southerners to defend against (anticipating Blacks to rise up against their Southern Masters ) which didn't happen.
Let the dead be remembered for what they lived and died for.
"States Rights vs. secession from the Union !!"
Let the dead rest in Peace ... and don't contiue the war like it was yesterday... to many have already died !
They left because they didn’t get their way in the 1860 election after forcing their pro-slavery agenda on the rest of the nation for decades.
The Federal government at the time had duties on any thing exported from this country. The two biggest exports were tobacco and cotton. The north was a net importer. It was where the term the Southerners call the “O Grab Me Tax” came from. Check your history.
This statute only applied when products were sold to another state, not exported to another country. nice try though.
I can't help but wonder how soon liberal fundamentalists will begin to demand the Washington monument be torn down. They have shown no reluctance so far to bulldoze Southern history and culture. And remember, many who want to ban Confederate flags also view the American flag as offensive. Every week or two another school principal forbids a student from flying an American flag on his truck, or wearing a T-shirt with an American flag.

Yes, there are British flags on the graves of British soldiers who died at Lexington & Concord and are buried there:

I know so little about history . . . are you saying the South was fighting to preserve slavery and the north was fighting to end slavery?
