WASHINGTON, May 22 (Reuters) - A magnitude 5.4 quake struck Nevada on Friday, close to the town of Helene, northeast of Las Vegas, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
It said the quake, which was quite shallow at a depth of only 12 miles (19.4 km), was close to the border with Utah. The epicenter was located some 90 miles northeast (145 km) from Las Vegas. (Reporting by Sandra Maler; Editing by Eric Beech)

the whole string of comments.... read like... a thread on... Free Republic...
there was a fairly small quake in the Napa California area today as well.
i had never heard of any faults in Nevada Before
its not the strength of any of the US. quakes,,,but the fact that the ring of fire us popping off several quakes around the world lately that I found notable
It was obviously caused by Global Warming, so let’s get the Coast Guard right on that
well yes,,,,the Las Vegas Ice Caps Have been Melting
The comments ARE hilarious...and sound so familiar :D
I was thinking Dingy Reid must’ve been *exercising* again.
Carl Rove’s new ‘earthquake machine’? (Must have got a good deal on his used weather machine!)
Vito and Guido, aka Dingy Harry’s ‘exercise mschine’ decided to finish the job?
Kinda scares me that seemingly the only region that hasn’t seen much is the Cascadia Subduction Zone off the coast of Washington, Oregon, and N. California.
Hope we’re not setting up for something BIG....
My money....is on Vito and Guido
I get the sense that something big is on the way
Lovely....
A ‘full 9 rip’ is JUST what we need.
I once saw a TV show called, “It Could Happen Tomorrow.”
The show mentioned one or two earthquake faults east of Las Vegas, and showed what would happen if one of them generated a major earthquake in the Las Vegas Valley.
Bottom line, a number of people dead and a great deal of property damage in a worse case scenario.
“The epicenter was located some 90 miles northeast (145 km)
from Las Vegas”
I would not consider 90 miles to be close on any level.
what were the odds, Las Vegas?
I just added to it...
Nevada has its share of faults its just that they just don't get quite the press that California does
