Waco police took issue with online conspiracy theories regarding Sunday's shooting at a Twin Peaks restaurant, with a spokesman saying Thursday the department "can't wait" to show the public "what truly happened."
Police have said after a disturbance in the parking lot Sunday, a fight began in the restaurant's bathroom that quickly escalated into an armed brawl and shootout that left nine motorcycle gang members dead and another 18 injured.
According to Waco police, the deadly altercation began after one gang of bikers showed up uninvited to a planned meeting of other motorcycle groups at the restaurant.
"You will eventually see what happened at Twin Peaks," said Waco police spokesman Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton in a news conference Thursday at 5:30 p.m. "I've seen it... It was horrible."
Sgt. Swanton said video of the fight and fatal shooting won't be available to the media or public until the McLennan County District Attorney's Office decides to release it, and that that time may not come until the investigation is much further along.
Swanton said there is currently no time frame on when the investigation may be complete, explaining that the nine men killed Sunday were more homicides than his department investigated in all of 2014. He also cited the complicated nature of the crime scene, which stretches from the interior of the restaurant to well into the parking lot.
More than 300 weapons have been recovered from Twin Peaks and the parking lot. Many were hidden throughout the restaurant, though police have not specified whether the weapons were placed there before the shooting or hidden by suspects as police responded to the chaotic scene.
Swanton specifically addressed those who have claimed online that police instigated the violence Sunday.
"Those who were involved know law enforcement did absolutely nothing to start this," Swanton said. He later said "a criminal element at Twin Peaks" started it.
Earlier this week, officials said there were 18 local police officers as well as four DPS troopers in place at the restaurant prior to a motorcycle group's event on Sunday because they were aware of the potential for violence.
Will they release ballistics, too, I wonder?
If the police really wanted to dispel all the conspiracy theories they would release all the bikers. From the aftermath you would be able to tell who was fighting who in the bar.
Where is that video? Do you have a link?
The restaurant already released the video.
The police really look bad.
Have you heard anything more from our biker hating “friend?”
Two fists, two feet, a nail clipper (per TSA), and a pocket knife. Six weapons.
What concerns me is the casual manner that the police took the lives of 9 individuals and the mass arrests and detentions. this is reminiscent of the roundups of Jews and Hitler's political enemies in Europe in the 30s and early 40s.
IOW forks and table knives.
I believe it’s linked through this Treehouse thread.
Good editing takes time. When they are done it will be said to keep the identities of possible undercover assets and informants secret.
Look at the state of CGI in the movies, and Donald Duck could be flirting with Daisy in the parking lot when the SHTF by the time they are done if they want to put that in too.
The videos should have been released immediately and the longer they delay, the more the content will be suspected of being tampered with.
Suspected hell! The more it will be tampered with. Frame by frame will mirror the police version.
Why should video of the incident have to wait?
Does the picture lose its probative value because it has been given over to the public?
Right now, we have the police basically saying “trust us”, but the story coming out is fractured and fragmented - and every drip seems like it is designed to support the police having acted correctly, even heroically.
I may be jaded, but I don’t see the harm in releasing the video now.
Dangit, sport, I was trying to be ‘nice’. Of course they’ll edit it like Hillary’s e-mails.
Except if you will look at my previous post, the restaurant already released their security footage.
Attacking the restaurant in the press was probably really stupid. The owner countered pretty effectively and it’s too late for a gag order now.
What makes you think the Waco police are under pressure for their actions?
That is the cutest picture ever!
Not that I can see. That blog is drawing conclusions from an AP article on video that the author hasn’t seen. Saying the video looks bad for police is hard to do if you haven’t seen it yet.
Where is the link, please? Just post it.
You're comparing Jews to criminal gangs?
