Bullets ricocheted around the parking lot of Twin Peaks, the Waco restaurant where a motorcycle gang shootout left nine dead, just minutes after Theron Rhoten pulled in on his vintage Harley chopper for a regional motorcycle club meeting, according to Rhoten’s wife. Katie Rhoten told The Associated Press that her husband ran for cover and was later arrested, along with antique motorcycle enthusiast friends and other “nonviolent, noncriminal people.” Authorities swept up around 170 bikers who had descended on the restaurant for what one club member described as a gathering to discuss laws protecting motorcycle riders.... McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara and Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton declined to comment Tuesday on allegations that innocent bikers were arrested.

I’d like him to “explain:” a lot of things about this whole matter. I don’t like biker gangs, but I also don’t like the fact that most of the dead were at the hands of the cops, while no LEOs were injured. We need to know the circumstances that lead to the deadly force use. From the disjointed press accounts, there seems to be some reason to suspect that the cops are not telling the truth about their actions.

Innocent is a relative term for 1% biker club members. “I have committed no recent crime” is probably the best we can expect from this guy.

So far all we have heard is the “official” explanation.
We will know pretty soon what really happened. My educated guess is the real answers are somewhere between an innocent gathering of bikers, with a couple getting into a fight and a gathering outlaw drug smuggling biker gangs that erupted into a gun fight.

Probably. If you’re there, you get arrested and they work it out later. If the only thing they can accuse you of is being in a certain public place when all heck broke loose, you’ll be released.

Right. What part of proudly joining a 1% outlaw motorcycle club do people not understand.
That’s like joining the SS or KKK, then denying that you are personally a racist.
Most biker groups know who the bad groups are.....if they had to duck to miss getting hit then they were there long enough to know the numbers and rival groups on site did not make for a good mix. Although some may be innocent of being involved with the ‘war’....remaining there to see the show wasn’t exactly smart.....When you have rival biker gangs in one place with drinking/drugs involved and bikers packing... something is going to happen. Waitresses have already said it was not uncommon for fights to break out when the bikers gathered there.
I would like to see some video of the event. It would be normal for the police to video the area for evidence and identification purposes.
No one seems to be willing to release video; hard to believe there is none.
So far, there seems to be a conspicuous lack of firearms confiscated, or shell casings near the people who were shot.
Let’s see. There were 100 weapons found and 170 were charged. Were they sharing weapons? I do think they rounded up a few that weren’t shooting anyone.
Not that I’m sticking up for these people, but you are still innocent until proven guilty in this country right?
She may be correct and some may be innocent but IIRC that’s what our judicial system is for.
150 guys, did they all commit a crime? Arrest them all and let some guy in a robe who thinks he’s God sort them out.
But seriously, the list of affiliations I saw didn’t include CMA, Iron Pigs, or the Waco Area Non Criminal Harley Enthusiast Association. This was a 1%er meet and this guy shows up in a jacket that says “I’m a member of a criminal enterprise”, of course he’s getting arrested.
