A fight that escalated to gunfire between rival biker gangs in a Waco, Texas, restaurant parking lot today left nine people dead, police said.
Eighteen people were taken from the scene to hospitals, mostly for gunshot and stab wounds, Waco Police Sgt. Patrick Swanton said at a news conference. Everyone involved was a gang member, police said.
The violence began as a fight between "criminal biker gangs" at the Twin Peaks Restaurant in the Central Texas Market Place early this afternoon, Swanton said. The fight then spilled into the parking lot where gang members fired at each other, Swanton said.
"As that fight progressed, it progressed very rapidly from hands and feet as weapons to chains," he said. "My understanding a club was involved and knives were involved."
Officers were at the scene when the shooting started, police said, and some officers fired at the bikers. No officers were injured, police said.
Witnesses reported hearing as many as 100 rounds fired from 30 guns.
Police closed the entire Central Texas Market Place shopping area, saying that there was a danger of more violence.
"It is still not totally secure because of the intel that we're getting of individuals wanting to do some payback," he said.
Over the past few months, he says they were aware of rival biker gangs causing issues at the Twin Peaks restaurant.
"We have attempted to work with the local management of Twin Peaks to get that cut back to no avail," he said. "They have not been of much assistance to us."

I am so sorry to hear of that.
By Dallas59’s standards, your dear friend did not deserve death.
I am both seen *and* heard...yet I still drive like I’m a target.
Have to.
..That is not what this was”...
Ok then perhaps you can explain exactly what it was for us less informed.
The neighbor’s weed whacker has a peculiar pitch that makes the dogs howl.
Sometimes, I’m sorely tempted to join in.
He looks like a heart attack ready to happen. Don’t the AAA guys with a gun have GTA drivers who flee on foot, people with warrants who run, pursuits where the driver’s bail on foot?
If one tries hard enough, we could connect the dots to every dime every person spends, everywhere.
Terrorists are clever enough to get cash from perfectly legal places.
Too much of a stretch needed to validate condemning someone you hate.
Better to just hate them outright, on personal principle.
It’s more honest.
Most yards need mowed just once a week or once every two weeks, and you know it'll only be for an hour or two when it starts. On the other hand, barking dogs, rap music, and loud bike exhaust is constant and forever.
It was not a turf war.
No one who was actually there even remotely believes that.
You need to ask why there was suddenly such an insanely heavy local/*federal* police presence at a perfectly legal gathering that happens every month, at the same place.
And right before the massive biker “Rolling Thunder” veteran event this weekend.
Wake up.
“On the other hand, barking dogs, rap music, and loud bike exhaust is constant and forever.”
Wow.
Has linear time ceased to exist on your block?
He must have been in there for a while. I guess once you’re in you are in.
Is this being reported anywhere (Link) or just Internet rumor?
What about that god-awful tuba Norteneo music?
Oh for crying out loud....this event was well known by all long â before it gathered. The police had been working to prevent this gathering, both with rival gang members and the restaurant owner before anybody showed at the site...including the police.. They all knew the risk of violence was more then likely and a pretty much given. It’s a public place on a mall site where the chance for public danger would be great if anything esculated as is generally the case when rival gangs meet.
It’s been a turf war for eons....those involved knew this all too well. Doesn’t matter what set it off...they’re thugs and gangs and need to be treated as such.
Which do you disagree with? Dogs have been barking all during man's existence. Rap music for 30 years. Loud bikes since the 30s or so. That's a lot longer than a two hour mow, which if you were paying attention was the point of my post.
I think most here don't have a problem with the way these meth-dealing bikers were handling, it would just be nice if the same strategy were used against the Ferguson types that do the same thing.
No, i didnt know that was taking place. Thank you.
handling = handled
And what happens when it's the police who "demonstrate a disregard to peace and the sanctity of human life"? Who is going to remove them "from the street"? Or should we just let them go because they break the law while wearing badges?
When the rule of law applies only to "civilians" it is known as tyranny.
I'm not saying the cops did anything wrong in Waco or in Ferguson or in Baltimore. I don't know. However, I think it is foolish to trust government workers simply because they are in positions of authority.
Go look for yourself.
I’m not your hand maiden.
It’s all over biker social media, from their own keyboards.
But I’m sure that will all be scrubbed too, in due time.
You stated that all of the above were going on all the time, forever.
Might wanna rein in your hyperbole a bit.
I don’t see Ferguson and Baltimore as even remotely the same as this happening, even though the mindset of being above the law might be similar. These are totally different situations and responses to.
