Does anyone know: Is the throttle on these trains a speed governor or just an engine throttle? If you are trying to maintain x speed, do you have to adjust the throttle going up and down hills?

#1 does not happen in the business of railroading the way you think... especially on the NEC.

The brakes didn’t fail. He applied them just before the crash and the passengers have stated they felt the train braking just before the crash.

Actually he is smart enough that he can’t remember anything without the lawyer he has hired.

I had a friend on the Canoga Park train. He was the conductor.
He was thrown about 30 feet and woke up later with a leg that wouldn’t bend at the knee.
It’s very interesting how people are hurtled around in these cars when they stop on a dime.
All because of human error.
Obama is such an idiot. Human error is the cause of most of these incidents. Interestingly enough, not Republican human error. For that matter, not Democrat human error either.
Bets are this guy was a Democrat though, if he voted. Perhaps the same is true in the Canoga Park crash as well.

WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE/sarc
Of course he misremembers, he’s pulling a Clinton..I read this guy’s bio, I have a pretty good idea what he was doing with at least one of his hands

The guy was treated and released by the hospital, then immediately taken to police headquarters. Black boxes have been recovered. One must assume his phone records have been reviewed. Officials already know exactly what happens here.
My personal opinion is his mass suicide attempt failed. Now he’s in deep kimchi. He will be very popular for the rest of his life behind bars.

if the brakes failed that would have been the first thing out of his mouth..he would have said “Something went wrong with the train, I think the brakes failed” instead he said he cant remember how fast he was going and lawyered up
To: ThomasThomas
Would have a remote controlled train prevented this accident? If the accident was due to a human mistake or plan, then yes.
If the accident was due to some mechanical or electrical or electronic problem, then no.

the injuries he sustained could have caused memory loss.
I doubt that is what happened. He was treated and released to police custody. Had there been indications of concussion and head injury, he would have spent the night under observation at the hospital (Neuro-ICU).

Wouldnt it be more accurate to state that the engineer claims he cant remember the crash details?I just post the stories, I don't write 'em.

Why isnt Brandon Bostian in jail for criminal negligence?Because these things take time to legally play out.
Or we could do it the Baltimore way....

then immediately taken to police headquarters.
This tells us Amtrak staff had a LOT to say to NTSB.

So, are you presuming that the speed limit on the sections for track BEFORE you get to the junction where the crash occurred is OVER 100 MPH ? I ask, because I don't know. I think it would be important to know that.It looks like the speed limit for the stretch before the curve was 110mph reducing down to 70mph as the train approaches the curve and 50mph on the curve. It looks as if the train was doing 106mph, according to NTSB. They have not said yet, at what point, 110mph zone, 70mph zone or 50mph zone, it was doing this speed.

Thank you for the info/link. The first reports that came in the other night were that it was behind schedule.
Welcome. I'm familiar with investigations (NTSB) and have been trying to discount different motivations and possibilities.
This is going to be an interesting investigation and may lead to homicide charges.
It is going to be very political and I expect there will be numerous attempts to bury the story under the "disintegrating infrastructure" narrative.
