WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today filed an amendment to the Trade Act of 2015 to lock in assurances that this legislation cannot be used to change federal immigration law.
"The Obama Administration has repeatedly assured Members of Congress that there is nothing in the Trade Act of 2015 that would allow the President to unilaterally make changes to federal immigration laws. I agree, and we should put it in writing and make it binding law," said Sen. Cruz. "I am a strong supporter of free trade, but I cannot support legislation that would allow the President to once again circumvent Congress to enact his own immigration laws. Since the Obama Administration has emphatically argued that TPA will not affect immigration, it should support this amendment, which makes that promise explicit."
The amendment states that nothing in the Trade Act of 2015 or in any trade agreement subject to the Act "shall alter or affect any law, regulation, or policy relating to immigration."
The amendment also states that any fast-track procedures shall not apply to any implementing bill submitted with respect to a trade agreement "that includes any provision that alters or affects any law, regulation, or policy relating to immigration."
The text of the bill is available here.
Well, I’m not representing myself as a Cruz backer. I did smell big hairy K-Street rats a while back when it seemed like he wasn’t getting a fair shake but I don’t like his H1-b and TPA stands, and pity isn’t going to get me to vote for someone who supports stuff I don’t.
That's ok.
I'll let those with an appropriate sense of what really matters control the debate. So long as the media and the GOP-E don't get to select the conservative candidate without some pushback, at least.

We’re going to have a heck of a time finding any candidate that will represent the will of the people. They literally just seem to regard us as calls to be ignored and/or blocked. To my mind, that’s what it’s all about, finding someone who will give the voters the time of day. I’m not even shooting for anything ideological, just stop ignoring people when huge majorities are in agreement, gotta start somewhere.
Should be noted that Cruz is in single digits, and if you are making threats “those against Cruz will have a hard time of it” than you are way off base.
I don't trust polls too much.
And I don't have to make any threats, ever.
I'm just relating what I see on the ground.
Weird that you see a threat in there at all.

Cruz voted for which cloture in Fast Track bill that Obama cooked up with Soros back in 2008 just like Net Neutrality Ram thru another Soros scheme hatched in 2009 when his puppets took office.
Time is running out for his puppets control over the WH so just like Net Neutrality they need to ram it thru now Fast track kills the Constitutional law requiring 66 votes to approve a treaty making a simple majority can ram thru a bad treaty .
Treaties are dangerous since they circumvent Us laws.
This disaster allows obama an Open Treaty clause which means he can rewrite it once its okayed to saw anything and no one can stop him.
Real great idea to give this American hater this unlimited power.
Cruz got caught along with Paul ramming thru an awful treaty which is full of give aways , new taxes, and send white collar jobs overseas. No One can even see because Obama and his Soros props won't let any know those details.
Cruz Sold us Out along with every single Gop senators to there real masters K street. So get angry and call these SOB offices on Thursday . I have.
Why do that for such a disaster the Treaty is being Hidden from the citizen if this country!
Why aren't Cruz , Paul, Sessions , Lee demanding it to be brought out and debated in the halls of Congress.
Why are these conservative Going along with this Soros scheme !
Congress would be allowed ONLY an up or down vote (50%+1) AS TO WHETHER THIS WOULD BECOME THE LAW OF THE LAND, superseding the Constitution as all treaties do.
Anyone who votes for this legislation is a traitor to the American people, Ted Cruz included.
Well whatever, I thought it was weird too which is why I said something. Hopefully this election goes better than its currently looking, for all of us :)
I believe Cruz to be a traitor for supporting this legislation...just another GOPe now.
Anyone who supports him is either dumb or need to take a hard look at their own allegiances.
THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS MATTER THAT SHOULD NOT BE DISMISSED.
Absolutely true. Traitors all.
Not effective? The guy won 5 of 9 Supreme Court cases!
55 percent is impressive these days? Wow. Who would have thought getting an “F” would be celebrated.
So I'll keep supporting Cruz with hours and cash.
Lots of us will.

This Cruz amendment is illegal under this Fast Track so is pure Fooling the bubbas spin.
Anyone who votes for this legislation is a traitor to the American people, Ted Cruz included.

In Medellin v. Texas, 51 Mexican nationals tried to overturn their conviction on rape and murder. They argued that Texas had violated the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations by failing to notify the convicted nationals of their opportunity to receive legal aid from the Mexican consulate. They based their case on a decision of the International Court of Justice.
The GWBush Administration AGREED and SUPPORTED the Mexicans.
Before the Supreme Court, Sen. Cruz argued the case on behalf of Texas. Cruz argued that foreign treaties, courts and laws did not supersede the US Constitution. He won 6-3.
I understand you feel strongly about this trade issue. But Sen. Cruz is a true patriot-— find your traitors elsewhere.
Naps, you picking a fight with me, my friend? Well, go ahead, but it won’t make me troll the Walker treads.
But, to your point, 5 out of 9 victories before the Supreme Court is exceptional.
Now, I know you’re a religious guy- so Cruz’s record before the Supreme Court might interest you
In one case, the lower court made Texas take down the Ten Commandments from a public building.
In another, the Fifth Circuit ruled that “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance was unconstitutional.
And in a third, the ACLU won lower court decisions to take down a cross that had been erected in honor of veterans.
Ted Cruz argued all 3 cases before the Supreme Court, and won.
Now, you think Gov. Walker would make a better President, that’s your call. But, why tear down a guy who has gone to bat for your religious beliefs?
VinL, you’re quite good. Thank you for your post. The clarity helps.
Thanks, Gator...but, it’s easy defending Sen. Cruz.
I am not trying to make a fight honestly. What I am trying to do is not make Senator Ted Cruz this porcelain doll that is so perfect that any blemish and it is a disaster for all those who support him. It has been typical for the “favorite” on here that any critique or negative is blaspheme to some. Of course on Walker posts, the good bad and ugly are there for all to see and welcomed actually because we don’t want a candidate who can handle criticism at least on the Walker side. As I have said before, if Cruz by some big time miracle gets the nomination, I will vote for him. I just think we have better nominees out there.
