Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy will take a trip to a San Francisco nail salon Wednesday—a visit intended to shine a spotlight on health risks posed by the industry.

Nail polish and other products found in salons contain an array of chemicals that may pose a threat to public health and the environment. Without proper handling, exposure to chemicals such as formaldehyde can lead to difficulty breathing, skin irritation and other health problems.
EPA already has put together a federal working group and doled out grants to organizations tackling the industry's public health and environmental impact created by the use of chemicals in nail salons, McCarthy noted.

The workers? They choose to work there. What about the clients. They are exposed to used and re-used tools and products. I’ve never even seen workers wash their hands in between clients. I’ve stopped going to those things. Utter filth.

UP FRONT ... I was an asshole and smoked heavily all my life until a few years ago and it is my fault I suffer .... and iIvehemently protest and reject all these "some people have difficulty breathing" reports that are, IMO, designed to put a burden, a tax or shut down completely some American enterprize ..... Yeah, I know ... they're all Vietnamese

I had to deal with fungus but having done (it’s been gone for years) so I still go in and get my nails done once every two weeks. But, and heres the key, I don’t go to any salon that used power tools. No drills. Most if not all of the Vietnamese salons do. I did once and that’s probably where I got the fungus. And when the woman who does my nails (I’ve known her for 25 years) was pregnant, I lectured her about the chemicals. She just laughed at me. The kids are teenagers now and seem okay.
Nail salons and tattoo parlors are about the only small businesses left, better kill them too. They already took care of the tanning salons with Obola care.
Off-topic, but we have a lesbian couple lving three houses up the street....and they’re both conservative, and 0bama bashers — a first in my little experience with that type.
I bet they don’t voice those opinions to their contemporaries.
To me, the government’s action on any of this correlates directly with what they perceive is the dominant race or ethnicity of the typical operators of the businesses.
If nail salons are largely Asian represented, then they’d probably group them in with what they’ve already done with tanning salons. Tattoo parlors (maybe weave salons, too) I’m not so sure.
