The relevant point was that he fired the weapon at the cops, not that he pulled a gun.
The articles states he “produced” the gun as well. You would think the officers would have had some idea once the guy finished the mill work and began assembly. At some point one of them would have said, “Ya know....I think he is making a gun”.
