I have a question ..??

If you have a child with this condition - why on earth wouldn’t you bring snacks with you .. instead of making demands on others to meet her needs ..??

Just asking ..?

It wasn’t the daughter with the “Behavior Issues”.

Mom=Epic Fail

The mom is fully aware of her daughter’s triggers, and Mom doesn’t think ahead to control the triggers, and then acts surprised when they are put off the plane?

I particularly liked the part where the mom threatens the attendant. Real class.

C’mon Mom! Talk about setting your kid up to fail!

Quite the pedigree....

“Donna is the only member of her family who has not been incarcerated.”

What is “an authentic voice”?

Dr. Donna M. Beegle, is an authentic voice who speaks, writes and trains across the nation to break the iron cage of poverty.

The pilot had no choice because the mother made it clear that the girl could become a physical threat. The outrage here is that this family selfishly cost all of these other people time and money.

Stupid passengers.

“tries to scratch”

That’s a threat of assault, get off the plane.

Mom dropped the ball, not the airline.

Mom should have anticipated that her daughter would get hungry vas packed snacks.

Never try to take control of an airplane. They don’t like that.

OMG. You can’t put an explosive teen in a plane that close to other people. She would have needed to be drugged on Ativan or such for the duration of the flight. Of course she would have needed all her own food brought.
Anyone flying with someone with special needs had better MAKE SURE those needs are already met before you go.

I have figured out what my kids need, special needs or just a toddler. I can get them across country in coach, no problem, because I have anticipated just about everything.

Remember what some people need to do to get on a plane: if you are paralyzed, or have leg issues, you have to catheterize yourself for the flight becusse they have made the bathrooms too small. My incontinent relative has to sit in his diaper the whole day because there is no way to have his aide help him in the too small bathrooms. Personally I think it’s a travesty but that is the way it is on these squished in airplanes.

My one child with special needs often does not come on family trips because it’s too hard.

I’m with the airline on this one, and I have 2 kids with SN.

I don’t buy this autism crap. Sure, they might have problems in math class or whatever. But a child sitting there hearing mom say if she doesn’t get a hot meal, she’ll attack? That kid HEARD mom give her permission to attack.
This used to be a discipline issue. A damned earthworm can learn to avoid an electric shock. But somehow these trendy autistic kids cant be trained in how to not throw tantrums?

A friend of mine from France was here not too long ago and had never seen or heard of a single kid there with “autism”. Yes, she has encountered them everywhere here. She asked me why America is full of autistic kids!

The bottom line, I bet those same autistic kids never pull their crap on the meanest baddest bully at school. They don’t walk up and do it to some mean looking hells angel. Well there’s a reason for that. They are gaming everybody, and their moms are too.

a learning disability, that’s all it is. But its being turned into someone who can never be expected to act right in public.
What happens when these brats leave moms nest?

Where were they in the 60s, these nut kids who explode if their every whim isn’t instantly met? And sorry, but too many moms think its trendy, and that it means their child is too smart for everyone else and is a budding Einstein. Its all a giant scam, blown far out of proportion.

It is the duty of every pilot in charge to insure the safety of all passengers.
If he felt there was a security risk possible then he took the correct action.

Nothing worse than screaming kids.

I came across two different ones yesterday and the parents acted like it was normal.

I kept thinking ‘smack that kid’

Now that I have read here about it, heard the story on two separate news broadcasts, I think the Captain’s exercise of his judgment on his flight, is fine.

If the family cannot control the mentally disabled child better, they need to make different arrangements.

The mother’s quick threats to sue, are very revealing of her agenda.

OK, I read the ABC article (sorry, Freeper purists!), and it sounds like there’s plenty of blame to go around. Assuming the article is accurate (which may be a big assumption, I don’t know), the family tried to eat during the layover in Houston, but the daughter refused her food. The mother brought some snacks aboard the plane in hopes that this would work, but apparently not. So far, it sounds like she was doing what she could to stave off a problem.

I agree that she shouldn’t expect to be provided a service for which she did not pay. But why couldn’t the attendant warm up one of the snacks she brought? THAT just seemed really petty and heartless to me.

Where the mom went wrong is issuing her “warning” about her daughter’s behavior in a way that sounded like a threat. Under those conditions, I think the Captain did the prudent thing by making an emergency landing. Furthermore, the mom does herself no favors by threatening to sue over “discrimination.” That just makes her sound like an entitled attention whore.

But if what I’ve read is accurate, I must put the lion’s share of the blame on whichever attendant it was that refused to warm up the woman’s snack for her. Had this been done, it seems likely that the daughter would have been fine, and none of this would have happened.

There is plenty of blame to go around in this story.

The mom foreknew what the girl was capable of, but she selfishly flew anyway.

The airline attendant acted stupidly to be so inflexible and not not even SELL a hot meal to defuse a mental health issue.

The airline captain may have overreacted by making an emergency landing, even though the immediate problem had been defused. Some passengers may have missed connecting flights as a result.

The amount of ignorance about autism displayed on this thread is amazing. “Autism” covers a spectrum of mental disorders ranging from mild to severe. It is real and yet no one really knows the causes. Those autism deniers are ignorant, but they are truly blessed they haven’t had to deal with it themselves.
