(CBSNews) An Oregon family traveling with a 15-year old autistic girl was kicked off a flight this week for what the airline calls a disruptive situation.
The family calls it an outrage.
Video shot by a fellow passenger and posted to YouTube showed Salt Lake City airport police removing the family from a United Airlines flight last Tuesday, after the pilot made an emergency landing.
The girls mother, Donna Beegle, was shocked when officers explained why.
He said, Well, the captain doesnt feel comfortable flying to Portland with your daughter on his flight, Beegle told CBS News.
The trouble began halfway through the flight from Houston to Portland. Beegle says her daughter, Juliette, was hungry and started to act up.
I know her. When she gets over hungry or over thirsty, she really struggles, Beegle described.
Her mother says Juliette is a picky eater, so she asked a flight attendant if she could purchase a hot meal from first class and says she was told no.
Well, I said, How about we wait for her to have a meltdown and then she is crying and tries to scratch and then youll want to help her,' Beegle said she told the flight attendant.
Beegle eventually got the meal and said Juliette calmed down. Then came an announcement from the captain.
We were shocked to hear them say, Were going to make an emergency landing in Salt Lake City, we have a passenger in the back of the plane who has behavior issues,' Beegle said.

An “emergency landing?”
What is that?
A landing is a landing.
The procedures are the same unless you are having engine or flight control problems.
In this case it was simply an unscheduled landing. No danger. No big deal.
And we think only the Dems advocate for abortion. Maybe we can start euthanizing these horribly "defective" children so we can have a perfect society without kids that act up...Margaret Sanger and "bert"
So.
I’m on the plane and decide that if that stewardess
in back (the Indian looking one, kind of short)
doesn’t take off her shirt and bring me three chili dogs,
I’m going to throw a fit and kick everyone’s ass.
Is that all right?
It’s my special need.
Chili dogs and topless or YOU ALL DIE.
Pick one.
I hope you didn’t sprain your ankle jumping to unwarranted conclusions.
She should have stayed home.
Sliced up, on crackers with horseradish it’s actually pretty good.
A threat of violence has to be handled with due care. . .what is the prudent course of action? Landing and removing the threat is prudent. If he ignored the threat and nothing happened, great but he would be harshly counciled for not reacting appropriately to a threat. If he ignored the threat and the girl freaked and harmed people/property (even alarming/freaking-out other passengers), causing disruption on the jet, the pilot would be facing possible loss of his job and the airline would be facing law-suites.
But then again, you don't agree with the actions of the PIC which begs the question: Are you a “professional pilot?” And if so, how much time and type ratings do you have so we can assess your suitability to pass judgment on the actions of the pilot.
Yummy! :)
Try some with the salsa at the next shoot.
Her mother needs to be preparing her to deal with that. Prepared or not, adult accountability is going to smack her in the face
Get this: When she's an adult, who's going to prevent her "having a meltdown"? What's going to happen when she can't handle herself, and becomes a threat to herself or others? What is her mother doing ... NOW ... to help her avoid that sort of thing?
Oh, yes:
Her mother is HINDERING such preparation.
Not to mention the young lady herself could have come to harm if the situation had been allowed to progress, which the Captain would also have to factor into the equation.
So now a conservative is defined by their complete inability to have sympathy for the imperfect? I was raised by conservative parents but I witnessed them constantly helping the less fortunate or the disabled. I love when I see my big strong conservative husband of 22 yrs go into the poor section of town and mentor the people who have made horrible decisions but he still loves them. Actually when I read this article I pictured my husband on this flight and without a doubt he would have been popping the meal into the microwave for the little girl when he witnessed the flight attendant deny it several times.
Not so simple. First Class meals are prepared to match the number of First Class passengers (and the pilots).
Either a First Class passenger that paid for the meal would be denied his paid for service or the pilots would lose their meal.
Not as simple as just walking up to First Class and taking a meal and walking back.
Agreed. Being conservative doesn’t mean that we should ignore or deny reality; that would be a liberal perspective.
*******************************
Evidently that is your definition of a conservative.
The responders are not aircrew and have no idea of the logistics and FAA rules and regs, as well as airline policies and actions when faced with an on-board threat for a lack of a meal.
Are those tards still doing that?
True. . .true.
BWAAAAHAAAHAAAHAAAAA!
Honestly, now.. if he were looking for cheap whores...
Oh, please.. you CAN'T be that ignorant.
Mama was kicked off the plane is more like it.
Imagine the PR disaster if the cabin crew walked up and quilted a paying First Class passenger to give up his paid for meal. . .being quilted in front of everyone else. . “unless you are heartless, how can you possibly refuse to give up your paid for meal so we can feed such a needy girl”. . .
IMHO. . .
