he pool is still there. It's shrouded by palm fronds and heavy gates, but it's there. Stand on Pierce Street, beyond the walls of the Fort Harrison Hotel, and you can hear families splashing, even smell the chlorine.
Close your eyes and picture this pool a half-century ago. Picture the Rolling Stones, then a scrum of scrawny Brits in lounge chairs...
Depending on the legend you believe, it was here, 50 years ago while in town for a concert on May 6, 1965, that Keith Richards and Mick Jagger wrote (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction. It's the Rolling Stones' signature song and one of the most enduring rock singles ever recorded.
Richards supposedly composed that one-of-a-kind riff while half asleep in his sixth-floor bed, and Jagger banged out those eyebrow-arching lyrics in 10 minutes by this very pool.

Objective reading of history.
How’s Brian Jones doing?
Gimme a break lol
And just "Who" is it that makes that claim...some Rolling Stone Mag survey?
Are We Not Men?
Go watch the Live at the Isle of Wight 1970 video, nobody could touch them live at their peak.
He's dead, of course and no doubt burning in hell.
What's your point? That the only art worth mention comes from virtuous, godly people?
We are Devo.
Back in the seventies, I read this ...
“You want to feel old? My daughter just asked me if it was true that Paul McCartney was in a group before Wings.”
Actually, Rolling Stone mag declared "Satisfaction" the greatest rock song of all time, which is ridiculous, since it's not even the best rock song the Stones ever produced.
No brass section, right?
One. Their art isn’t that good.
Two. Hero worship is sad.
Three. They are lousy evil creeps.
Murderers and liars.
All the above can be separated from hearing a catchy tune or overproduced piece of melodramatic music.
Not enough cow bell.
Hard to believe.
I saw them in the Kingdome circa 93 for the Voodoo Lounge tour.
They blew the roof off the place with some new PA/Sound mixing technology.
They could delay the sound in back and have it emit from the speakers at the same time as it would reach the rear from the front speakers.
Everyone does that now and every venue is as good as another.
But NOTHING compared to the show in the Tacoma Dome, the largest all wood venue in the world.
But when they’re in Austin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwEOZtJm8pU
That is oh so true.
Popular music is like a candy bar. Sure, it’s of little nutritional value, but it can give a momentary burst of pleasure. Kept in that perspective, it’s an entertaining diversion. But if all you eat is candy, of course you will overvalue it.
It might be conservative but it doesn’t have to be obnoxious.
Rock on.
Nobody else can rock like this...
