Megyn Kelly’s Impassioned Defense of Free Speech in America Left a Harvard Law Professor Applauding
IJ Review ^ | 5/8/15 | Mike Miller

Posted on 05/08/2015 10:27:25 PM PDT by Impala64ssa

During her opening monologue on “The Kelly File” Wednesday, Megyn Kelly delivered an impassioned defense of America, the First Amendment and the right to free speech — whomever it might offend.

When she finished, Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz was so impressed he broke into applause.

Kelly’s comments were in response to those who say Pamela Geller and her organization, American Freedom Defense Initiative, purposely tried to provoke radical Islamists by hosting the Muhammad cartoon-drawing contest in Garland, Texas:

“The bottom line here is that some in this country have been so busy trying to figure out how to avoid causing any religion any offense they have forgotten what is offensive to Americans: those who would trample on our core ideals.

“In America we stand for liberty and freedom to offend, to provoke, to persuade and to defy.” After Kelly finished her monologue, Dershowitz applauded and said:

“Let me applaud your statement; it was fantastic. It is the paradigm of the way Americans have to look at our freedoms and our First Amendment. Jefferson would have been proud of you.” Those who agree that the First Amendment right to free speech was not designed to protect speech we like, but to protect speech we don’t, surely applauded as well.

Like a leader of the Black Panthers telling his followers, in plain English (or plain ebonics), to go attack nurseries where white babies are. But I haven’t heard one hypocrite on the left call him out,

Fox needs to post some of the cartoons. and we need to have wednesday is mohamad cartoon day in every school. part of common core.

Surely some of the illustrious techies on FR could arrange to flood the Social Media with such cartoons..................all in the interest of education, of course.

Now that I am retired, I have enrolled in the local community college to take courses that interest me.

The school has areas around the campus with boldly marked signs that read, “Safe Zone”. I guess the tender flowers at the college need a place where their sensibilities won't be bruised. The poor delicate dears!

I noticed that on his website, his Thursday poll question, "Do you support the group American Freedom Defense Initiative mocking the Islamic religion?," is still open. Most of his polls close after one day. Maybe he's not getting the results he wanted.

But the 1st Amendment is absolute in terms of preventing enforceable constraints on any speech save the criminal variants of incitement.

This is where a lot of people are going mushy.

Too many people think that "exhibiting an offensive cartoon" is "inciting criminal behavior".

That's stupid. Being offensive to some or all people isn't incitement. If someone decides to commit a crime in response, that's THEIR decision, and THEIR responsibility.

I wish I was in a position to reply to these idiots, every time:

If exhibiting a offensive cartoon is incitement of violence, then dressing provocatively must be incitement of rape.

I really want to see them twist themselves into a pretzel to rationalize any kind of difference.

***Fox needs to post some of the cartoons.***

Several years ago, on FOX news, Michele Malkin held up a large poster with several of the European cartoons of mad Mo-hammed on it. The camera angles quickly changed so the poster and cartoons could not be seen.

Now why would FOX be afraid of cartoons?

here’s another point.

Years ago, I couldn’t care less about Islam.

I saw no reason to oppose them, make fun of them, or draw cartoons of their religious people.

But then things started to happen, that THEY caused. We all know it well:

The Munich Olympics massacre.

The Rome and Paris massacres.

The 1979 Iranian Revolution, and the taking of America Embassy personnel for 444 days.

The constant attacks on us and other Christian and Jews around the world; Lockerbee, Beruit, Entebbe, Khobar Towers, the USS Cole, Breslan, to name only a few.

Then it all cumulated on 9/11.

And now constant beheading and threats.

I learned all about the suppression and murder of Christians and others who were/are not Muslim, and the brutality against women and children. I studied—Hell, WE all studied—this “religion”, and no thanks, it is horrific, brutal and always angry. It is of the Devil.

Satanic.

So, in DEFIANCE, I too spit in their faces, draw Muhammad cartoons, mock them, challenge them, and want these angry, insane, murderous killed.

THAT is why this is EVEN MORE than a matter of Free Speech.

EVERYONE of us should be doing this, or we WILL be overcome by them. We must keep defying them, at each and every chance.

For God’s sake, Westerners, oppose them, die or absorbed!
