In a little-noticed brief filed last summer, lawyers for the House of Representatives claimed that an SEC investigation of congressional insider trading should be blocked on principle, because lawmakers and their staff are constitutionally protected from such inquiries given the nature of their work.
The legal team led by Kerry W. Kircher, who was appointed House General Counsel by Speaker John Boehner in 2011, claimed that the insider trading probe violated the separation of powers between the legislative and executive branch.
In 2012, members of Congress patted themselves on the back for passing the STOCK Act, a bill meant to curb insider trading for lawmakers and their staff. We all know that Washington is broken and today members of both parties took a big step forward to fix it, said Rep. Bill Johnson, R-Ohio, upon passage of the law.
But as the Securities and Exchange Commission made news with the first major investigation of political insider trading, Congress moved to block the inquiry. . .

elections fix everything
7 years ago, why do you ask?
Well we are electing them because LESSER EVIL! too...so there’s that. We wouldn’t want to hate our own country by voting for conservatives or nothin’... Cuz I hear that we do unless we WIN with LESSER EVIL!
Brad, what beyond outright rebellion can one do? I suggest do what a guy I know does. Self-employed / all trans actions done in cash...pre-paid credit card (in a name other than yours) for any on-line purchase....own nothing on paper of great value...pay state owed tax only and let the fed rot in hell...he seems to do ok....no bills / owns everything (in a manner of speaking) outright...and lives a nice life. I should add he is armed to the teeth (so he says) but why would I believe a guy I’ve known for 30 plus years and see constantly?.....he is not not Anti American but in his words “not adding to the underminig of the republic in his small way” seems right to me...fk the fed they are beyond redemption and too infected. KEEP YOUR POWDER DRY !
Yes, but if you notice, more and more people are ignoring the laws and doing what they want anyway... our politicians don’t get that whether they like it or not, they lead by example. They are failing miserably.
Thanks very much for the post; ping; thread. BTTT!
IMO the answer is to investigate anyway.

The house changed the rule back shortly after the put on a show.
Yep....closer and closer to that fourth box.......
Article I Section 6
They shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place.
There is the treason, felony, and breach of the peace exclusion. It's time to call insider trading a felony.

Safe while congress meets or congressmen commute; other times... no.
The legislation was passed but it was watered down so that while sitting legislators and staffs couldn’t use the information, their family members could use it in their own names. Eric Cantor helped push that weasily crafted amendment to that legislation and it was just one of the many reasons why we voters in the 7th put him out of office!
