A top commander in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) told a state-run media outlet on Wednesday that Iran is prepared to go to war with the United States and will even “welcome war” to show off Tehran’s power.
“We have prepared ourselves for the most dangerous scenarios and this is no big deal and is simple to digest for us,” said IRGC Lieutenant Commander General Hossein Salami. “We welcome war with the US as we do believe that it will be the scene for our success to display the real potentials of our power,” he added.
Salami’s remarks come as U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry recently insisted that military action is still on the table for the Obama White House.

This man is reminiscent of Japan’s overconfident senior commanders just prior to WW II. The Iranians have purchased many modern Chinese shore to ship missiles if fired at American capital ships in the narrow , shallow Persian Gulf, conceivably can cause a debacle for the American Navy worse than Pearl Harbor. Would not doubt that Russian and Chinese war gamers have told the Iranians this is not only possible but likely. These Iranian commanders assume the US would withdraw and accept defeat. The reality is the counterattack would devastate Iran. Interesting variant of the game is that the Saudis, Israelis, ISIS and others are aware of the ramifications of an Iranian assault on American ships if shooting were to start.
