Just for the heck of it, here's my story. At age 31, I married my now ex-wife. For 9 years (and a little after) everything was great. She wanted kids, and was unable to have them. 14 years ago we adopted a baby. That's when it all started. She was unable to divide her love between the baby and me. The older the child got the less attention I got. Maybe I'm selfish, but I felt as if I was being more and more pushed away. Whenever I wanted to do something with our daughter the wife would say, “you're trying to make a boy out of her.” I just wanted somewhere I could connect with my kid. (Since the divorce I've introduced her to shooting and she loves it.)

So it got to the point that by the time our daughter was 12 Mom was going with her to sleepovers at one friend's house. First indication something was wrong was when my neighbor called me at work and told me that my wife was moving stuff out of the house.

Now the ex-wife is living with the drug addicted bum, daughter (at 14) is in trouble with the law. I made out pretty well, kept the house (mortgage upside down), all the vehicles (wish I could sell her car but it to is worth less than I owe), and all she gets is a small monthly percentage of my Navy retirement.

And my heart ripped out and smashed after 23 years of faithful marriage. And I'm still dealing with the loneliness.

One thing you can observe in life as a divorced man, as seen on this thread, is that some non divorced men size you up as a failure. That you obviously messed up. You either were a bad husband or obviously chose to marry some crazy woman. Hence it's all your fault anyways. That attitude applies to other topics too at FR. The judgmental and know-it-all attitude from those who haven't experienced divorce is just swell.

My divorce , way back 1977, It was a 50-50 split.

She got half and her lawyer got half.

Brother, I not only feel your pain, I’m there, too. Right down to my military retirement I sweated so hard to get—half is now hers; forever.

I will never marry again. Never.

If I change my mind, it’s not me, but some demon who has possessed me. Please shoot me then.
