Abstinence Plus? what the hell is that? Kids have sex. Especially those in High School and even some in 8th grade. Anyone who thinks they're not going to do so has their head in the sand no matter what you tell them, or what they say they understand. Might as well make sure they know how to protect themselves.

This isn't the 1950s.... An outbreak like this in this day and age is pathetic.

The article is making it sound like the abstinence-program CAUSED the outbreak of chlamydia, whereas the fact is that the outbreak was caused by kids IGNORING the recommendations of the seminar.

7%? I’m not impressed. This as compared to what? I would like to see stats which show the percentage of kids in schools where abstinence free sex ed is taught. I’m also willing to bet that there are at least 5% of these girls who have gotten the shot that keeps them infertile for several months. That’s the latest cool thing that parents are doing. Never mind that it doesn’t prevent STDs.

All this article is is a blatant attack on the rights of parents to raise their children free of classes which assume that the kid is sexually active.

Yeah, right, these kids have never heard of condoms. STDs are widespread among teenagers, and the only purpose of this article is as anti-abstinence propaganda.

What a crock-o-pooh! Any and every kid knows what a condom is from a young age.
The article is a push for more government control

From a government website: "Adolescents ages 15-24 account for nearly half of the 20 million new cases of STD's each year."

So there are nearly 10 MILLION NEW cases of STD's among 15-24 year-olds EVERY YEAR, and most of these kids were NOT taught in abstinence-only programs. This article is a piece of propagandistic crap.

The population of the entire county is less than 5,000. This is a tempest in a tea cup.

This is just Left Wing Yahoo trying to score bullsh*t points with anti-abstinence propaganda.

Yahoo is a liberal sewer.

The best form of sex ed is educating the girls and boys that if they screw up by screwing they will have to responsible for another life for the rest of their life.

The reasons we have issues like this is that boys and girls are no longer help responsible for their actions or are even educated they will be held responsible.

The article is also a lie. According to a local paper the school gives the high schoolers three days of sex ed. That’s quite a bit.

An abstinance program did not cause this problem. If blame is to be placed, it lies with the parents as such instruction and supervision is their responibility, not the school’s.

Go away dumbbutt. I raised my kids not to be slutty whores, and I was successful. Blame your failure on someone else.

Chlamydia caused the school to lose their sex ed program?

Texas law mandates that such courses emphasize abstinence, and indeed a district committee recommended Scott & White’s “Worth the Wait” Abstinence Plus curriculum three years ago.

I guess it didn't take.

So 24 years old is still considered an adolescent? I wonder what our soldiers and airmen think about that....especially the 17, 18 and 19 year old MEN who fought the Second World War.

IMO sex education is not the responsibility of the school district. I agree that parents need to get their head out of the sand but birth control discussions and the spread of STD’s needs to begin at home. This issue is no different than checking the contents of your teen’s or tweener’s cell phone and computer, discussions about the dangers of social media, etc. Schools interject themselves in the raising of the children because parents allow them to. Parenting is never easy and each generation presents its own special issues. The ones I deal with with my grandson are some different than the ones I dealt with my son - except for the hormonal one. It’s never changed even from the time I was a teen!

Wait til it's HIV. I hear with that Syphilis is making a grand comeback in the gay community. Good stuff.

"Kids have sex. Especially those in High School and even some in 8th grade. Anyone who thinks they're not going to do so has their head in the sand no matter what you tell them, or what they say they understand."

Crazy. Raise your kids right and you will have either no problem, or very very rarely a problem. Serious parents do not have sleep-around kids.
