I agree, convicted criminals should be required to undergo punishment stipulated by law. But I was amazed how Christian beliefs let you off so easily for past sins. There are many sins for which one does not always get caught and convicted in a court of law. Such as adultery, stealing, even most murders go unsolved when committed by strangers.Then you get to repent and all past sins are forgiven! And you can ascend to heaven!! That is not how it works in Hinduism. We must pay for our sins by doing many more good deeds. Otherwise come back to eart in next life as a democrat :)

We don't have to pay for our sins because Jesus took them all upon Himself. He left heaven to willingly suffer and die (and then rise again) so that He could pay the penalty for us...because no matter how hard we work, we can never attain perfect holiness, God's standard, on our own.
