Democrats running for president will participate in six primary debates organized by the Democratic National Committee (DNC), party leaders announced Tuesday.
Weve always believed that we would have a competitive primary process, and that debates would be an important part of that process, said DNC Chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Fla.) in a statement. Our debate schedule will not only give Democratic voters multiple opportunities to size up the candidates for the nomination side-by-side, but will give all Americans a chance to see a unified Democratic vision of economic opportunity and progress no matter whom our nominee may be.
Four of the debates will take place in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada all states with early nominating contests. The sites for the other two debates have not yet been decided.
Clinton indicated on Twitter that she would participate in the debates.
Democrats who participate in debates not sanctioned by the DNC will reportedly not be allowed to participate in later DNC events.
The events will bring former Secretary of State and frontrunner Hillary Clinton face-to-face with the small field of candidates expected to challenge her. For now, the only other declared candidate in the race is Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), but former Maryland Gov. Martin OMalley is considering a White House bid.
Former Sen. Lincoln Chafee (R.I.) and former Sen. Jim Webb (Va.) have also said they are considering running against Clinton.

Hillary vs. Hillary. Should be good. Will Candy Fatso moderate?
Nine debates is a lot. I’m not sure what you learn in the ninth debate that wasn’t obvious after four or six.
I hope the GOP will choose good moderators for the debates. We need republicans from the middle of the party moderating, not leftists from the media elite.
Hillary has spouted enough lies, so I suppose she can debate herself for many hours.
You could knock me over with a feather that they haven't learned anything.
"R. Lee Ermey, and Ted Nugent can moderate the debates."
H/T to EvilCapitalist.
I actually appreciate the idea of having many debates. I just hate that they are all so scripted & the same questions are asked over & over again. Most having to do with the economy. They are more like campaign commercials where everyone tries hard not to say anything controversial.
"How does it feel to be the second most wonderful woman who ever lived, right after Michelle Obama?"
Make JEB! and rubio come out on top, and CRUCIFY the rest. Oh, and don't forget to completely ruin any candidate who isn't part of the RNC-DNC-CofC Washington political machine.
This crowd makes Tammany Hall look like a bunch of squishy rank amateurs when it comes to political corruption.
Hillary in front of a mirror? It’s a win-win....she can take both sides of an issue successfully!
Shouldn’t that be Dems plan 15 debates, nine of them for Republicans? Those so-called Republicans debates are moderated by Democrats, the media panelists are Democrats, and they’re sponsored by Democrats.
” Democrats who participate in debates not sanctioned by the DNC will reportedly not be allowed to participate in later DNC events. “
“Democrats who participate in debates not sanctioned by SOROS will reportedly not be allowed to participate in later DNC events.”
Fixed it.
Dear GOP — do NOT have debates
DO NOT have debates.
Republicans should be planning to do without debates. They might be useful if there were two or no more than three candidates. A dozen candidates in a “debate” is absurd and distracting and serves to waste time and obfuscate message. It can help only the candidate favored by the moderator.
