Nearly fifteen years ago, Portugal had one of the worst drug problems in Europe, with 1 percent of the population addicted to heroin. They had tried a drug war, and the problem just kept getting worse. So they decided to do something radically different. They resolved to decriminalize all drugs...

How about a new approach.
Exterminate all drug dealers On the spot. They care nothing about individuals or society.
Yes. let’s try that one first.
Where exactly in the Constitution is the authority granted to the Federal government to regulate what people put into their own bodies?
And thanks for showing your hatred of jury trials and due process. It reveals a lot about you.

Unfortunately, many otherwise “small government” types love to channel Anslinger when it comes to any discussion of drugs.
This is a fake title, the poster switched titles to get people to click on it.
The actual title is “The Likely Cause of Addiction Has Been Discovered, and It Is Not What You Think”.
You think you have the moral high ground being pro-drug-dealer?
You aren’t even conservative.
We have a winnuh.
And note I said DEALERS, not buyers.
Some people on the thread don’t seem to make a distinction. But I choose my words precisely.
I think I’m pro-Constitution. And you need to pay a visit to the FR Homepage and learn why this place was founded. It wasn’t so cops could execute people in the streets.
Now piss off, fascist.

I would suggest that we separate drug use from drug trafficking. Decriminalize the use and offer the treatment suggested in the article but become draconian with drug trafficking.
I think I understand this...
If you take drugs to make you happy, you won’t need drugs to make you happy.
Is that about the gist of it?
Well, the drug trade is not a government sponsored program like i the US. If the CIA had not aided and abetted the drug business for so long, it might have been stopped long ago.
I had my knees replaced. The right one failed resulting in two more operations.
The first operation, I took the drugs as recommended by the doctor. The withdraw was a walk in hell for a week.
The next two operations I was smarter. I only took the pain medication if it was a level 3 or 4 or higher and 20 minutes before physical therapy. Result: No problem stopping the drugs.
Drug dealers are the scum and death of neighborhoods and communities. They have caused more damage to people individually and destroyed more families just so they can make money off of addicted people. They care nothing for the people and communities they destroy peddling their sh1t.
And where did I say it had to be cops dealing with the problem of scum drug dealers?
Go pound yourself you libertarian hack.

Thanks for exhibiting the sort of mind that might save the Republican Party from extinction. Knee jerk 19th century social Darwinist thinking is what caused us to lose academia, the news media, the entertainment media, the bureaucracy, youth subculture, urban centers, etc. We change or we die, it’s that freaking simple.
Follow the money.
The drug war is like the government K-12 schools. It employs a **lot** of government workers.
Educational-industrial complex = government jobs!
Drug War -industrial complex = lots of government jobs ( Police, prison workers, lawyers, courts, etc.)
De-Federalize the war on drugs and let the states decide. Honestly, I don’t care what individual states decide; I’m sure there will be a variety of interesting differences.
But that will never happen because the Feds need the war on drugs to keep their criminal extortion racket going. They make money on shaking down the money laundering banks, money on confiscation, keep their people employed with prosecutions, and some of the naughty boys do deliveries or get a cut to stay quiet.
The U.S. Federal government is the most heinous criminal organization in the world.
I got it entirely.
End the War on Drugs.
