Two gunmen opened fire Sunday evening outside a contest for cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad at Garland ISD's Curtis Culwell Center, police said.
The two men pulled up in a vehicle and shot a Garland ISD officer. The men were fatally shot by Garland police, and their bodies remain on the street outside the events center.
The security officer's wounds were not believed to be life-threatening, but he had been hospitalized.
No one was being allowed to leave the facility, where an art show centering on caricatures of Muhammad was being held. Nearby businesses, including a Walmart and Sam's Club, were evacuated.
Authorities extended a perimeter 2,000 feet around the Culwell Center, and they were investigating a car within that zone. Garland police were waiting for a bomb squad to examine the vehicle.
Reports of the incident began to develop shortly before 7 p.m., when the event had been scheduled to conclude. A speaker had finished his presentation shortly after 6:30 p.m.

That isn’t “exercising 2nd amendment rights.” That never bestowed a right to murder over expression you didn’t like.
Most school districts in Texas are independent of other governing bodies, and the boundaries don’t conform to municipal boundaries. You can live in the city of Dallas, and you might be in the generally sorry Dallas ISD, or in the better Richardson or Plano ISDs. But part of Richardson is in the Plano ISD, and part of Plano is in the Lewisville ISD.
If you move to Texas, city boundaries are important, but school district boundaries are more important.
So far it does not appear that these were towelheads. More likely american blacks who claim to be muzlim. See tagline... :)
Looks like he’s deleted it. Think he’s probably going to need to take a pass on any tournaments in Texas for a while.
yeah.. in TEXAS your plans wont go over so well, might want to target California or New York.
All you guys are being tough about this, being in Texas, but this is going to start happening pretty much everywhere. I don’t think there’s going to be a mass attack where I live in northern Virginia, but I I think it’s very possible that a couple of outliers will start shooting a place up here.
