Depending on whom you ask, “Jade Helm 15” is either a domestic military training exercise or a covert operation for the federal government to take over the state of Texas – and 2016 presidential candidate Ted Cruz just became the latest Republican to fan the flames of the latter theory.
Speaking at the South Carolina Republican Party’s annual convention Saturday, the Texas senator told Bloomberg’s David Weigel that his office had contacted the Pentagon about the exercise, which officially consists of a series of training drills throughout the Southwest for about 1,200 special operations personnel, including Green Berets and Navy SEALs. Conspiracy theorists operating on the fringes of the conservative blogosphere, however, have other ideas about what the exercise, known as Jade Helm 15, is intended to do – such as implement martial law, seize Americans’ guns, and imprison political dissidents.
Rather than squash those theories outright, Cruz apparently decided it was better to be safe than sorry.
“My office has reached out to the Pentagon to inquire about this exercise,” he said. “We are assured it is a military training exercise. I have no reason to doubt those assurances, but I understand the reason for concern and uncertainty, because when the federal government has not demonstrated itself to be trustworthy in this administration, the natural consequence is that many citizens don’t trust what it is saying.”(continued)

You are assuming I live in Vermont. That is your first mistake.
Second, I am familiar with the area and have spent quite a bit of time out there. This entire exercise has been planned for ages and is occurring on private land.
My guess is that sme of the Alex Jones fan club did not get Ickes for some of that government money being handed out. So they started the rumors, which have been around for months.
But if you want t believe that 1200 of our best warriors are traitors, I respect your fantasy. Jet be sure you realize that is what it is.
I saw a town meeting in a small place in Texas and it was standing room only. People were ticked.
The idea behind Jade Helm is primarily a psy-ops to get people used to seeing the military and their equipment in civilian areas. It’s the old Fabian tactics, slowly boiling the frog.
The second purpose is to regularize relations between military and local & state police & local governments. The military will also need to know where they will find resistance and where there will be support. Think of this as recon in “mastering the human domain”
Another goal for participants is “blending in” with the local population. This will allow the military to acquire information and test and refine infiltration and intelligence gathering techniques against suspected resistors (constitutionalists, Bible based Christians, vets, gun owners)
Drill for opposition crowd control and dissident extraction has already been documented.
This drill is expensive and has the potential to result in negative and possibly dangerous interactions with the public. It is the end of posse comitatis and Ted Cruz is right to be concerned.

The Special forces has done this 14 times before—going back about 30 years. This is the first time it’s being held outside of North Carolina.
