Depending on whom you ask, Jade Helm 15 is either a domestic military training exercise or a covert operation for the federal government to take over the state of Texas and 2016 presidential candidate Ted Cruz just became the latest Republican to fan the flames of the latter theory.
Speaking at the South Carolina Republican Partys annual convention Saturday, the Texas senator told Bloombergs David Weigel that his office had contacted the Pentagon about the exercise, which officially consists of a series of training drills throughout the Southwest for about 1,200 special operations personnel, including Green Berets and Navy SEALs. Conspiracy theorists operating on the fringes of the conservative blogosphere, however, have other ideas about what the exercise, known as Jade Helm 15, is intended to do such as implement martial law, seize Americans guns, and imprison political dissidents.
Rather than squash those theories outright, Cruz apparently decided it was better to be safe than sorry.
My office has reached out to the Pentagon to inquire about this exercise, he said. We are assured it is a military training exercise. I have no reason to doubt those assurances, but I understand the reason for concern and uncertainty, because when the federal government has not demonstrated itself to be trustworthy in this administration, the natural consequence is that many citizens dont trust what it is saying.(continued)

I am well aware of the mock ups there and the ones in Nevada as well.
As I said, the logistics of the planning is not mine to defend. I am merely stating that the concern, conspiracy stuff, and theories that have everyone worked up do not stand up to even the most basic scrutiny.
They should.
Sorry. I was taking more fire, I was answering as much as I could. No offense intended.
A lot of things this guy doesn’t know until after the fact. Odd that. But anyone can claim to be anything on the internet. Look how many liberals claim to be conservative.
Don’;t paint the target where you’re standing and that won’t happen.
Great, so why did you claim in post 137 that Texas was chosen as it resembles the Mideast?
It does not, and the villages aren’t similar at all.
And logistic from Fort Irwin would be better.
Did you read the whole post? Or do you simply look for a phrase to jump on?
That seems to be a tactic among you and Norm. And a few others who have made FreeRepublic a cesspool. You snipe, but add nothing to a conversation. Then you pick apart sentences. Then you call names.
It’s not a nice way to play in the sandbox.
It’s a bad idea from stem to stern. They should do it in Mexico or at the limit in the Capitol building.
Yes.
We had a college professor here with the handle of “casuist” not too long in the recent past.
He...was interesting.
If they did it at the Capitol then at least they wouldn’t be shooting at patriotic Americans.
Had another called Drey that liked hiring illegals to roof her house while posting against illegal immigration as well.
Yes, and I laughed.
Because your post 137 doesn’t fit with it.
Or the fact that logistics from Fort Irwin would be much better.
I stand with Ted
That’s the reason they gave. And it does resemble parts of the Middle East. It doesn’t resemble parts of Central Asia, which some folks around here is in the Middle East.
Oh yeah.
“.....because when the federal government has not demonstrated itself to be trustworthy in this administration, the natural consequence is that many citizens dont trust what it is saying.”
Now there is the understatement of the week.
Go, Cruz, GO.
Just imagine the much needed fresh air that Cruz will bring to the White House.
Funny that generals have stood on TV and refereed to Stan is middle east. I guess you don’t understand the concept of a catch all term.
The reason is bs.
On the face of it.
Tell them to come up with something better that doesn’t fall apart after looking up Fort Irwin NTC.
Ok. Now explain to me what you think is going to happen. What are your theories? Why all the fear and conspiracy theories. Please change my mind.
But you don’t seem to understand there is no down side to Cruz doing this.
There’s a down side to posters on the internet trying to tag him with this in that they are wasting their time.
But for Cruz, no down side.
