This prosecution is a poorly choreographed dog-and-pony show.
The charge against the driver is ludicrous.
.
.
He used his head as a battering ram against the bulkhead in the van.
.
.
>> “He was the only officer in the van once it left.” <<
.
Where did you get that idea?
.
I looked it up and understand it a little better. They can’t get convicted of both. I am uncomfortable with the bet hedging aspect of it. I do see the necessity sometimes, but also it leaves a lot of room for abuse by prosecutors.
Because I was told that on TV by another officer.
Officers load inmates in transports but do not ride in the back during
transport.
They may follow or escort in their cars but do not ride in the back.
While I'm rooting for the cops, as driver of the van, he should have been responsible to make sure Gray was properly restrained, even if he had to do it himself. When we transported inmates outside the prison, there were always two officers. One carried a S&W .38, and that was usually the second officer who sat next to the driver. Our vans had a metal cage between the officers and the inmates. The driver usually didn't carry because he was the one who put the inmate in the van, and put the seat belt on him. Any officer carrying a firearm was directed not to get within arm's reach of an inmate. Inmates were always handcuffed and shackled for outside trips. We had community work crews that consisted of inmates who were close to going home. They were escorted by an officer who supervised them, and these officers were never armed.
There was another prisoner in the back, and he said that the fool was deliberately trying to injure himself.
When more than one suspect is arrested, like typical criminals they’ll often turn on each other. Finger pointing, ratting out one another. First to squeal gets the deal. CYA.
Not saying any of the cops are guilty here, but if there is wrong doing, and one or more of the suspects knows it, they’ll start singing to save their own hides.
It happens on a routine basis. No honor among thieves.
Michael Savage suggested North Dakota. LOL
Low Tech Lynching.
Dollar to a Donut that the meme will be that the Black Police Officers were just following the orders of the White Police Officers.
So True. These charges and trial will be a circus. A very bad circus.
That may be true. Who knows.
that’s absurd
Where did I say that? Where did I even take the side of the police? You need to learn to read first, think about what you want to say and then, if it makes sense, hit the post button.
Welcome to the USA, the police, the media, the courts and politicians, here in the land of the Oligarch, never ever tell the truth.
In a time of universal deceit - telling the truth is a revolutionary act.- George Orwell
Then reduced again when the lawyers receive their fees.
As far as what has been shown goes, I can’t see that they have any serious charges that can be leveled at these officers.
Carelessness possibly WRT those who placed the perp in the van, but who knows how wild he was, and how difficult it may have been to truly secure him.
Arresting a drug user can produce endless complications.
.
Absurd it may be, but it is a fact.
