In an interview with Fox News’ “Your World with Neil Cavuto,” Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke dismissed the charges against six Baltimore police officers in the death of African-American man Freddie Grey as “political justice” and “a miscarriage of justice.”
CLARKE: It’s a miscarriage of justice. This neophyte prosecutor stood up there and made a political statement, Neil, and I say that because she chanting or voicing some of the chants from this angry mob. Her job is to tune that out. She said, ‘I hear the voices.’ She is not supposed to hear anything as she reviews this case that is not consistent with the rule of law and our system of justice.
Look, I’m an experienced and a veteran homicide detective. I’ve had — I’ve participated in charging conferences. There’s no way I have ever gotten a criminal charge within 24 hours after taking over all the reports and evidence to a prosecutor. A prosecutor who is thorough needs several days to sift through hundreds of pages of reports, they usually want to interview some of the witnesses themselves in person, and they have to sift through all of the evidence, piece by piece, and they have to wait for some of the forensic evidence to conclude to come back.
And that’s why I say on a minimum, three to four days. She just got this case yesterday. This is political activism. She’ll never prove this beyond a reasonable doubt and I’m not going to silently stand by and watch my brother officers offered up as human sacrifices, thrown like red meat to an angry mob, just to appease this angry mob.
I agree. She rejected the request from the police officers union to appoint a special independent prosecutor. She has political ties to Gray’s attorney. Everything she says or does is suspect.

I am denying that she just got the case yesterday. She has had the case for two weeks. She just got the police department’s report on their separate investigation yesterday, but she and her office had already been investigation for two weeks.

I think the Sheriff is referring to the length of time the DA needs to consider the evidence after it’s collected in the field.
She just got the case yesterday. You cannot investigate what the police claim before they do their report.

The prosecutor read off a litany of charges. Seems like she is throwing every charge she could think of at the officers.
She is either trying to make a name for herself early in her career or she is being pressured.
So what had it been, and what is it now? And was the meeting the only thing that happened in between, or did the examiner actually see something that had been overlooked.
If there is not a good explanation here, suborning a witness appears to have occurred.
On the other hand maybe she does want to queer the trial for other reasons.

What part of independent investigation don’t you understand. Independent. Not dependent on the police investigation. The DAs office conducted their own interviews, reviewed relevant documents and other evidence, did their own analysis, etc. Why would they need to spend days reviewing the police department’s report on their separate investigation?
What I heard was that the medical examiner had said that the injury to Mr. Gray was consistent with a bolt on the back of the van. This would indicate an accidental injury. Now the medical examiner is saying “homicide”.

What could go wrong?
Even IF her office has been “investigating” for the past two weeks how can SHE even make a reasonably informed decision on what charges to even levy against the officers?
Would she not need time to read the reports that her own investigators compiled? Would she not need time to read the ME’s report? Would she not need time to read the PD’s report? Was a grand jury even convened to review the case?
This smells like a railroading for sake of political expediency that will implode in the end which will trigger riots on a scale so large as to make every race riot of the past 60 years look like a backyard weenie roast.
In cases of indirect cause that are in question, the coroner has no way to know. Maybe they DID nickel-ride him to death, but that is a matter to be determined at trial. This is going to get the case tossed at appeal.
