That's why I say it's a mistake -- and it's being demonstrated more and more than ever before now -- it's a mistake to go on Drive-By Media as a conservative to try to get them to understand. They don't want to understand. They don't think they're wrong. There's nothing a Republican presidential candidate could say to George Stephanopoulos or Charlie Rose or any of them to make them change their mind. Nothing. It isn't gonna happen. That's not why they invite them there. They don't invite Republicans on these shows 'cause they really care what they think. They invite them on these shows to expose them. Can I give you an example? Let me jump forward here, find the sound bites. Ted Cruz went on Mark Halperin's show, whatever it's called. Let me just give you an example here. I'm not gonna have time to get to all these. Bloomberg TV, All Due Respect, Mark Halperin, John Heilemann, liberal cohost. There's Ted Cruz talking about his background. They are assaulting Cruz on whether he's an authentic Hispanic. Now, listen to this.
HALPERIN: People are really interested in you and your identity, so I just want to ask you, as a historical matter, when you filled out your application to Princeton, to Harvard Law School, did you list yourself as an Hispanic?
CRUZ. Oh, sure. I've listed myself as Cuban-American. That's my heritage and my background.
RUSH: Right. Okay. Here's the next one. Listen to this.
HALPERIN: Talk a little bit more about your Cuban heritage and ask you in the following categories whether you have an affinity for or a connection to anything part of your Cuban past. You got a favorite Cuban food, Cuban dish?
CRUZ: Oh, I grew up eating Cuban food all the time --
HALPERIN: What's your favorite dish?
CRUZ: -- at my grandparents. You know, picadillo I grew up eating all the time. We had plantains. We had beans and rice. For Christmas, we would roast a whole pig a lot of years for Christmas Eve. And so my grandparents, my abuelo and abuela, they didn't speak English.
RUSH: You see what this is? He's not an authentic Hispanic. He's a conservative. He's a fake, he's a phony. What is your favorite Cuban dish? It's pointless here. It's insulting. This is demeaning, it's racist, and it's disgusting. And here's the last one.
HALPERIN: Do you have a favorite Cuban singer?
CRUZ: You know, I have to admit in that I'm much more of a Texan. I tend to listen to country music more than Cuban music.
HALPERIN: Finally, you know, we wanted to give you the opportunity to directly welcome your colleague, Senator Sanders, to the race, and I'd like you to do it, if you would, en Espanol.
CRUZ: I'm gonna stick to English, but I appreciate the invitation, Senor.
RUSH: So you can't even speak Spanish, eh? You call yourself an Hispanic? The whole point of this was to expose Ted Cruz as a fraud, that he's not a Hispanic. The whole point of this interview was to say to liberals and Hispanics: don't buy this Cruz guy as one of you. He can't even speak their language. What is this, he doesn't even have a favorite Cuban singer. He can't even answer these questions about basic life in Cuba.
That's what this is all about. They didn't care what Ted Cruz really thinks about issues. They don't give a rat's rear end about Ted Cruz and his policy. The whole reason Ted Cruz was invited there was to expose him or present him as an unqualified fraud and faker. So the idea that the libs are gonna get their minds right on gun control or conservatism, ain't gonna happen, folks.
It would have been hilarious if he had answered in Spanish...but the answer was “Sorry, I know what you’re up to and it’s pathetic”.
She would have never known and just plowed on making her look even dumber.
Rush is right - and he needs to keep saying this until our people understand. Republicans need to STAY OFF liberal shows.
It’s a setup.
Nothing more...
In the future Senator Cruz, just say “Pitbull”. The stupid Millenials will know what you’re talking about.
Cruz and other conservatives go on those shows because there’s some hope that they just might make the lib hosts look like fools now and then.
Without name-calling, which would be a losing proposition.
I think Nixon, Regan and W all did a good job winning over liberals.
Like the Book says. Strong Delusion.
Nixon and W WERE liberals.
And what does Donald Regan have to do with this? ;)
I’m certain Sen. Cruz has a favorite Hispanic singer, as I’m sure he can speak some passable Spanish. He just wasn’t going to play the game, this apparent, when he jibed Halparin by calling him “senor”.
If you know it is a setup, then you can go on the show and do what Sen. Cruz did here, show the average viewer that it is a setup while politely dissing the inquisitor.
It goes back to something Sun Tzu said: if you know yourself and you know your enemy, you will win 100 of 100 battles; if you know yourself and not your enemy, you will win 50, if you don't know either, you will never win.
Most Republicans don't know their enemy, and the establishment types don't know themselves--if they did, they would be "moderate Democrats," not Republicans. That is why the establishment types lose every time, and the usual conservative loses half the time. Cruz knows himself and he knows the media enemy, and he can win in battles with them 100% of the time.
I’m American. Grandparents spoke mostly Italian. My parents did too but not in the house because we were in America now and English was the language.
Educators now know that leaning two languages is easy for a child and doesn’t affect the learning of the other.
It would have been nice to speak Italian but not the end of the world. As long as mom still makes home made ravioli, cavatelli, and Sicilian pizza. Alas, she will soon be too old to. :(
Everyone from Cuba and Mexico and Guatemala etc. that are here legally are Americans now. Cut the crap!!!
Cruz answered great. He added that he fondly embraces some of the cuban traditions but he is American.
You don’t go on shows like this to win over Liberals. You go because Conservatives and swing vote moderates watch them too. You go to demonstrate that you can stand up and fight the Liberals.
And you don’t argue with Liberals to win them over. You argue with them to demonstrate to your fellow Comservatives that they aren’t alone.
And you dont argue with Liberals to win them over. You argue with them to demonstrate to your fellow Comservatives that they arent alone.
Well said sir! Very well said!
Modern liberals are not those liberals. Modern liberals are certifiable and unteachable.
I agree.
At some point, conservatives have to just tell the lamestream media to eff off. Ignore them, completely.
There are many alternatives in media today, and conservatives should use them.
And the Presidential debates? Refuse to participate, unless the moderator is eliminated.
Hablo pico pico Espanol.
Cruz is really very good at this.
If he is actually what he claims to be, then as President he could actually do it - he could turn the country back to the Constitution.
Well, we’ll see, won’t we?
I read recently Cruz can speak it, but not fluently. He's more low-level conversational.
I think they should boycott the shows and the questions as a matter of policy/strategy. Think about the reality- the GOP adapts their positions to the media— the Dems don’t. Clearly, the media is the enemy-— publicly declare them as such; the alternative is continual surrender.
Yeah, but it doesn’t take much to learn a few bugger-off lines, as suggested above.
“I’m not going to play your petty little game. It’s an insult to me, my heritage and my fellow Hispanics”.
