Bullshit. This power company can run credit checks on potential customers just like thousands of other businesses do, in order to determine if specific individuals have a history of not paying their bills. But to broad brush all blacks because some blacks don't pay their bills is absurd, and discriminatory.
This public utility company is going to get hammered for racial discrimination.
From the article:
"There are local ordinances, there are statutes and there are even federal laws that forbid this kind of discrimination based on race," Silverstein said.
He's absolutely right, and in the case of public utilities, this sort of discrimination is flat-out illegal, as it should be.
In such cases, account applicants should be judged as individuals, and I can't believe any patriotic American would assert otherwise.
It just goes to show the prejudice and hypocrisy of some.
BRAVO!!!!
Racism!!! Pure and clear racism.
I remember when conservatism shunned bigots like the ones who have posted on this thread. Any lib who wants to call conservatives racists can turn to the posts made by some of the ignorant posters on this thread and have concrete evidence.
It’s a shame what has happened to conservatism. A crying shame.
First, this isn’t a public utility it is a private HVAC company who shouldn’t be forced to lose money. Second, why should all customers need a credit check because people in a bad neighborhood who happen to be black won’t pay their bills? If it were a neighborhood full of welching whites being avoided you would see zero complaints. Third, you can scream racism all you want but the fact is these people aren’t being discriminated against for being black, they are being discriminated against because a large percentage of them won’t pay their bills. The black guy “shocked” by racism got an appointment pronto outside of a zip code full of known thieves. If the people in that area who do pay their bills have a problem with this, perhaps they should take it up with their neighbors.
Well said!
Be sure to notify Sharpton. He an put this HVAC company on his list for when he’s done with Baltimore.
