Prisoner in van said Freddie Gray was ‘banging against the walls’ during ride
Washington Post ^ | 4/29/15 | Peter Hermann

Posted on 04/29/2015 6:38:56 PM PDT by markomalley

A prisoner sharing a police transport van with Freddie Gray told investigators that he could hear Gray “banging against the walls” of the vehicle and believed that he “was intentionally trying to injure himself,” according to an investigative document obtained by The Washington Post.

The prisoner, who is currently in jail, was separated from Gray by a metal partition and could not see him. His statement is contained in an application for a search warrant, which is sealed by the court. The Post was given the document under the condition that the prisoner not be named because the person who provided it feared for the inmate’s safety.

The document, written by a Baltimore police investigator, offers the first glimpse of what might have happened inside the van. It is not clear whether any additional evidence backs up the prisoner’s version.

I would think that if a person was arrested and then beaten to such an extent that they have 4 spinal cord injuries and a crushed voice box that someone would have seen that, assuming that any beating related to arrest would have occurred prior to being placed in the van.

Some people have said that when he was placed in the van he appeared to not be moving and such, giving me the impression that they are implying he was or may have been injured prior to being placed in the van.

Yeah..... but what’s more likely? That the guy broke his own neck and crushed his own windpipe.... or that the police worked out a deal with another prisoner for his bit of testimony.... because they tried to choke him out and it broke his neck instead.

Don’t be so sure, I didn’t own automobile from 1994 to 2008 in San Diego. Just my bicycle and my bus pass, and I’ve gone near projectile on the bus often enough to know that if I was shackled and cuffed I would have been a screaming missile.

You go shackle your feet and handcuff yourelf at the waist with the shackles or behind your back, I don’t know which way the shackled and cuffed him.

Then get somebody to put you in a van with a bench and no back rest. Have them drive 25 MPH, do several sudden stop-n-go, a few abrupt turns all while wearing no seat restraint.

Then get back to us and tell us about your theory.

The video looks to me like he was injured. They had to carry him to the van. Now, he could have been faking it, I suppose.

An ER doctor in Detroit told WJR that cops bring self- injured prisoners to them all the time that think they can go home from the hospital.....and many do end up getting out.

Alright.

If that is the case, and he was injured after arrest and prior to being placed in the van, I would think that a beating that resulted in his injuries would have been seen by someone in a city setting.

That is just an assumption of mine, but it seems like it would take a pretty severe beating to cause that.

Secondly, had he received those injuries prior to being placed in the van, then I am curious what the prisoner inside the van heard in terms of him saying that he thought Freddy was trying to injure himself in there.

It seems unlikely that a person with his injuries could move to any great extent, or even request medical help with a crushed voice box.

Thats totally possible. And if so, I won’t lose a moment’s sleep because people that live by the sword die by it eventually. Cop or Perp. And with the perp’s rap sheet It was gonna be by cop or another POS eventually. Either way he was on borrowed time.

Via the lead poisoning lawsuit that he and his sister ca$hed in on, he became intimiate with the Las Vegas tort law system. He resented his arrest, and decided to turn lemons into lemonaid —squeezed those lemons a bit too hard.

Yes. I believe we've seen court records posted that show three family members, Freddie, Freddie Sr. and Frederika cashing in on lawsuits.

Who’s talking about looting, about a fight
about throwing rocks and then fires to ignite.

I’m talking about people who get hurt the most
the peaceful, the caring and empathetic hosts.

One thing for sure is the politicians don’t care,
just as we know that the criminals don’t scare.

Forget the cops with their union and pension plan,
when it gets down to you and me they don’t give a damn.

The cops the pols want you on bended knee
sometimes even a blind man can see.

Once arrested, it is the states responsibility to ensure the prisoners safety.

Agreed. Protocol to seat belt/secure arrestees went into effect shortly before the incident but the arresting officers obviously didn't get the memo or didn't read it.

Internal decapitation will go a long way to convincing people you’ve been injured.

I’m not saying I agree this is what happened, that he injured himself, but you should hear some of the stories my husband comes home with about people trying to get out of going to jail by faking injuries, giving themselves real injuries, laying flat on the ground and screaming when nothing is wrong and then you have to get them into an ambulance and more. Half the city my husband works in watched a white guy on drugs run into a parked ambulance full force three times before they could get him down. He felt no pain. If there hadn’t of been so many witnesses, would anyone actually believe the guy “ran into the ambulance three times” instead of being hit by
the ambulance? People on drugs, facing arrest, and just plain crazy or mad will do things you can’t anticipate or always be immediately prepared for. I don’t know what happened here, but I know weird things happen! Oh, and sometimes it’s not even drugs. People can have strange types of seizures and illnesses that cause them to hurt themselves. With these people, though, it usually happens many times and you can prepare before you approach them because you know who they are. But it doesn’t make them less violent because you have sympathy for their condition. And no my husband is not pd but FD with medical.
