Presidential candidate and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said on Wednesday that he has never seen a Hispanic person begging for money on the street.
"I don't think I've ever seen an Hispanic panhandler. And the reason is: In our community it would be shameful to be begging on the street," Cruz said.
Cruz, who is of Cuban descent, made the point while speaking in Washington at a question-and-answer session with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
He used the example to argue the Republican Party should be able to compete for the Latino vote. Hispanics, Cruz said, share many of the same values that are championed by GOP leaders.
"I think the Hispanic community is a fundamentally conservative community. If you look at the values that resonate in our community, they're faith, family, patriotism, hard work," Cruz said. (snip)

Come

Ted
You’ll see ‘em!
What about the ones on the public dole?
I’ve seen plenty of Hispanic bums. What you DON’T see are Indians or Asian pan handlers.
Not in this country, anyway ...
Does selling bags of oranges at the street lights count as panhandling? In Tucson, the panhandlers are street people who sell papers at the intersections. Then they go into the arroyos and light it up.
¿seriesly? LOL
He needs to get out more. Robstown 77 & 44.
Laredo all over.
The LRGV, Brownsville, Progresso, McAllen, and Mission
Last but not least, the west side of downtown SA
I live in LA, and there are shockingly few hispanic panhandlers given. There are far more white panhandlers, even though whites are a minority. Not uncommon for hispanic peddlers (flowers, fruits) to work the same off ramps as white and black beggars.
What I see are the boyfriend/husbands working under the table, and the female and kids receiving all the government stuff.
It is a simple life, but easy and laid back, sort of like Mexico, except better.
Oh my goodness.
Cruz is really pushing it. This has to be making liberal heads explode!
I live SOCAL in the L.A. area and Cruz is right. I don’t recall ever seeing an Hispanic begging in public. They sell oranges or flowers etc. but they don’t beg at intersections holding signs, whereas I see lots of whites and blacks panhandling in that manner.
