The bastards must’ve also raised the income tax rates...wife and I both claimed married and 0, still had a tax bill at eoy of almost $2000!
We paid $620 in fines, er, uh tax, er uh, fines, the week before deadline of April 15th.
That’s over and above ALL the taxes I paid in during the year!................

You two are obviously working too hard. You need to kick back, relax and apply for an EBT card.
We would have been happy (as seniors w/S.S.) to have a tax due of $2000. We were a bot shocked to see ours at $18,000. No, our house sale was this year. Hate to think what next year taxes will be. (We don’t get subsidized insurance either). we just re-invested a 401 and they called it a disbursement instead of a rollover. Talk about shock! We’re getting it corrected with the bank’s help. I will be bad enough without that amount.

When we had two incomes, we both had to claim single in order to have them withhold enough. They make it difficult on purpose - to hide just how much income they are redistributing from us. As the 2nd income, I wanted 28% (back then) withheld - you have to go through a myriad of calculations to figure out how to have them withhold that simple percentage!
