Longtime Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders will jump into the 2016 fray tomorrow, presenting the first official challenge to Hillary Clinton from her left. Liberal activists have been quite anxious for such a challenger, though the one they wanted was a bit younger and female. A self-described socialist in the style of the European democratic socialists, Sanders will bring fresh, innovative ideas to the table, like: Corporations are bad and have too much influence on our giant, ineffective, unaccountable government, so let’s make government bigger to fix the problem and also take a lot more money from the rich. They’re the worst. (And, more hot Koch Brother talk!)
Here’s the news fromwhere else? Vermont Public Radio:
VPR News has learned from several sources that Independent U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders will announce his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination on Thursday.
Sanders will release a short statement on that day and then hold a major campaign kickoff in Vermont in several weeks.
Sanders’ entry into the Democratic race ensures that Hillary Clinton will face a challenge to win the support of the liberal wing of the party.
Sanders’ basic message will be that the middle class in America has been decimated in the past two decades while wealthy people and corporations have flourished.
His opposition to a proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal (T.P.P.) shows how he plans to frame this key issue of his campaign.
He will run as a Democrat, thereby getting himself a ticket to the debate stage. He’ll announce tomorrow and hold a rally…next month. Because this thing is a rocket ship, people!
One ally who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss Sanderss timetable said the 73-year-old senator is expected to make his intentions known this week and hold a rally in Vermont next month. He plans to run as a Democrat, according to his associates.
Update: Room for Berniementum?
Small sample, but… https://t.co/OE8mh4MzRW

Update: At least Hillary can fall back on her ever-present charm and transparency:
Your Post sounds like you think he’s running as an Indy in the General Election. He’s running against Hillary in the DemocRAT Primary.
The independent collectivist? No contradiction there...
His campaign is a double-edged sword. Although he’ll claim that principle motivates his run, the cynic in me believes he’s shooting for the magic number of support to qualify him for matching FEC funds, and life on 1%’er Easy Street. On the other hand, if he stays in it until the election, he can bleed enough support from the Dark Side candidate, even with the extra 9 mil new citizens, to make the race hopeful for the GOP guy, as long as it isn’t Jeb.
Great, now I have someone to vote for if Jeb is the R candidate. /sarc a little
At least he sticks up for the Vets. I’m sure that Nat Krinsky and Max Newfield would have been proud of him. (His HS coach and principal)
Shillary, from the Stalinist wing of the party has announced and now Sanders, from the Maoist wing, is getting ready to jump in. The only thing remaining is for Fauxcahontas, from the Khmer Rouge wing, to throw her feathers into the wing.
“Hillary Clinton will face a challenge to win the support of the liberal wing of the party”
Oh, man, they’re killing me. “The liberal wing of the party.” The entire Dim gangster cartel is so far left, that Bernie only differentiates himself by barely hanging onto the edge of the world by a hangnail. But I guess the narrative will be that since Bernie represents the fever swamp leftist fringe, then Shillary is “mainstream, middle of the road.”
Sanders is an independent and not a dimocrat. He does frequently caucus with the rats.
His running may siphon off her extreme left support but they would actually be opposing each other in a general election election.
DU and related sites will be doing the happy dance. Now if Warren would announce, they’d be in heaven.
I hope he is running as a Democrat!
You don’t get to the White House without Wall Street money. An Bernie ain’t gettin’ any Wall Street money.
The only time Comrade Bernie smiles is for the official photo.
He is humorless, dour, & inclined to lecture & talk down to rather than to discuss. He makes Lizzie Warren sound like Carol Burnett.
A typical socialist, in other words.
If Warren got in too it would set of a civil war amongst “progressive” douchebags. LOLOLOLOL
