WASHINGTON After Baltimores first round of rowdy protests on Saturday, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake came under fire for saying that the city gave people who wished to destroy space to do so.
I worked with the police and instructed them to do everything that they could to make sure that the protesters were able to exercise their right to free speech, Rawlings-Blake said to the media Saturday evening.
Its a very delicate balancing act because while we tried to make sure that they were protected from the cars and the other things that were going on, we also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well.
On Monday, at another news conference on the riots that broke out in the streets following Freddie Grays funeral, Rawlings-Blake said she was misunderstood.
Im going to protect peoples right to protest, she said. The fact that people exploited that does not mean that I do not have an obligation to protect peoples right to protest. I never said, nor would I ever say, that we are giving people space to destroy our city. So my words should not be twisted.
Gray, who was 25, died on April 19 one week after suffering a severe spinal cord injury while in police custody.
Demonstrations have been nearly constant in the city ever since, and destructive riots broke out after his funeral on Monday. At least 15 officers were hurt Monday, including six who remained hospitalized late in the day, and two dozen people were arrested. Several buildings were burned, as well.
Liberal blacks believe that rioting, looting, and arson are proted forms of free speech.
reported in the last hour on Micheal Savage that police officers are reporting they were ORDERED to stand down against the rioters.
Still, it sounded like she was taking the destruction of private property way too lightly and almost as something that couldn't be avoided.
” we also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well. “
Pretty clear to me.
What a tangled web we weave......
Talking sense to these people is like trying to explain title insurance to your dog.
Conflicting statements is an understatement.
She is now lying thru her racists teeth.
>>Liberal blacks believe that rioting, looting, and arson are proted forms of free speech.
I think its closer to:
Liberal believe that rioting, looting, and arson are the forms of speech of which blacks are capable.
I had a FB discussion with some Progs last night over Baltimore and their soft racism of low expectations was amazing. They really do think that blacks are just overgrown children with no impulse control and that it is our duty to just let them vent until they get tired so we can put them to bed and start over tomorrow like today’s events never happened.
That’s a flat out lie, who does she think she is Zero?
In the press conference the Mayor seemed more upset when asked about her statement than when talking about the burning city.
“Rowdy” protests?
“Rowdy” protests?
...and liberals believe they get as many bites at the apple as necessary to get the press back onside.
The press should respond to asking about specific meanings of specific words. What, exactly, is space? What, exactly, is destroy? When, exactly, is destruction permitted?
Thanks for the update.
I was certain this is what transpired but to have it publically confirmed raises the controversy to a much higher level.
Of course the mayor and her liberal supporters will no doubt mealy mouth the accusation as a misunderstanding or intentional lie on the part of the officers.
I agree with your take.
She may not have meant to say it but she said it. The mayor of a major city has to be competent enough to speak clearly and understand the meaning of the words he or she speaks. Everyone misspeaks but some circumstances require a higher level of discipline. A city in full riot qualifies.
Denying that she said what she said just makes her look dishonest and stupid.
