".....In a recent Washington Examiner interview, Cruz promoted legal immigration and criticized Walker for suggesting that he supported limiting legal immigration if it has a negative impact on the wages of American workers.
"When we talk about what should be the policy on legal immigration, it should be driven by the economic impact. And number one on the list of priorities should be: What is the impact on American workers and American wages?" Walker said.
"If unemployment is high and labor participation is low, why would we want to open the door and flood the market with more workers at a time when our own people here are looking for work?"
Walker said that we are a country of immigrants, but we are also a country of laws. He asserted that we should be looking out for the American worker in everything we do.
"From immigration to tax policy to welfare reform and everything, Im going to stand with the American worker."

I WANT Cruz and Walker to be at each other's throats. The 2016 GOP nominee needs to be completely vetted and their stand on the immigration issue verified.
I don't trust Walker on illegal aliens, back in March he gave a speech to a dinner in NH saying he still supports a pathway to citizenship. And his latest comments about protecting American workers are a cop-out. Immigration is a national security issue. You seal the borders and send the illegals packing, the American worker issue will take care of itself.
I don't trust Cruz on legal immigration, especially H-1B visas and other work permits to foreign tech workers.
The two of them need to debate one-on-one, or merge their powers together like that superhero Firestorm.
They can be vetted without trying to make spin attacks against each other.
He would have won this on his straight policy stance.
Details like will really be foremost in the minds of typical e.g low-information voters, yep.
Don’t be ridiculous. Either we have this fight now, or we’re going to have it when one of these men get nominated and the media/DNC defines the issue for them, because they need to “reach out to the moderates and the Hispanic vote or else they won’t win.”
It should also be explained that this not only negatively affects American workers, but also other legal immigrants to continue flooding the labor market with surplus labor. That case needs to be made as well to counter the claims used to manipulate ethnic minorities into believe it is “racism” to slow things down.
Who would remain on your list?
Walker nailed this one. He has the majority of the American public on his side. Cruz should also adopt this stance and mean it.
It really sounds like the Freepers already have it down to Walker and Cruz. It bums me out a bit to hear people argue about which one is better; especially this early in the game. Let the elections sort that out. Chances are no one will change anyone’s mind here on the forum but the debates between the candidates might.
Either one would make an excellent POTUS. They are both young enough to run again in the future too so even if neither gets to the main event; they will be better prepared and more seasoned for the next time which I’m sure everyone hopes will be in in 2024 because we will have a conservative Prez after the 2016 elections.
And you are behaving EXACTLY like I expect you to: Like a dishonest shill with an agenda. Same BS different candidate.
Would it not be better for these two top tier candidates to be attacking and eliminating the multiple low tier candidates first? Destroying each other could easily lead to another Bush nomination.
Fox News is part of The Ministry Of Propaganda, they will only support amnesty candidates, Bush, Rubio, Huckabee, etc.
So saying something about another candidate’s position that they haven’t communicated is valid?
To me, that’s a attack based on an assumption of the worst possible policy position imaginable. It is to paint them in the worst possible light. This damages them if they do get the nomination.
Saying you are Pro-Legal Immigration doesn’t mean you are for unfettered immigration.
It is a lie that Walker is feeding to the press. He doesn’t know the specifics of a Cruz policy.
He is damaging the Walker Brand at the same time as damaging Cruz.
I’m with you on #47.
One more thing to add, I don’t support Cruz criticism directed at Walker either.
But at least it was fact based.
Walker, assuming he stops waffling on some of the big ones.
Paul, if he moves out of his semi-isolationist position. As much as I hate it, we’re still better off killing the bastards THERE then HERE. Want him to further tighten his immigration stance. SECURE THE BORDERS!!
We have to wait for the primaries and debates to see how it shakes out.
I agree with you on Walker. I followed Paul for a bit but he never made it on my list. Right now I have two. Cruz and Walker. I trust Cruz much more than Walker though. Very excited for the debates. Now if we could just get some of the other candidates to go away.
You will find that he was ready to filibuster her nomination.
Once the cloture vote was in, it was a done deal. His vote meant nothing. He had better things to do than hang around and watch the RINOs sell out the American People.
Who determined that Cruz and Walker are top-tier?
Both men, really at this stage, are underdogs.
I don't want them attacking Rubio or Bush because the base doesn't support them anyway and the media will ignore their comments.
Going after each other is a good thing. Conservative voters are not sheep and we want our candidates to be clear on where they stand.
may God continue to protect and bless him. he’s absolutely right. Cruz? he’s not right about this.
Hey, it's politics. You think presidential campaigns are supposed to be group hugs and kisses?
The Founders fricking had duels, for crying out loud.
