All 15 bison that roamed across a section of town for the past several hours were shot and killed by family members who owned the animals Friday.
The center of attention was at a creek off of Willowbrook Avenue as authorities tried to round up the herd that escaped from a farm in Rensselaer County, crossed the Hudson River and bolted across the state Thruway.
One of the hunters "hired guns" appeared to have a heated exchange with Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple after the gunfire started and was taken into custody. Apple said he was concerned about possible harm to people in the crowded area from the rifle shots. The man was later released.

I'm assuming the herd didn't ford the Hudson. Shame if they did and no one filmed it.
Well, a lot of those got shot down too.
"It started the day before at GEM Farm in Castleton, when a herd of what are formally named American bison got loose and their owners were unable to round them up. On Thursday night, police said, 15 swam the river from around Schodack Island, came ashore in Bethlehem and headed into an area at the end of Peltz Road."
Amazing!
Is that a big river? One frosty dawn in Montana I watched a herd of big bulls walk down to a big river and swim it. They never broke pace and seemed to swim and walk at the same speed. Came out the other side with steam billowing off of them.
That’s an easy choice.
Wegman’s opened a store in Mass a few months ago I’ve heard.
I think the Hudson is about half a mile wide or more at the point. It’s tidal as well. Ocean going vessels pass where those bison crossed en route to Albany and Troy. It’s a big river.
If the animals will stand still for them, there’s a good chance you could be right. Then you get a guy who can’t use good judgement and a wild round goes off into the distance.
In the countryside, fine. In town, I’m not on board that.
Bows would be more fun...!!
hey...
Those beasts would be around for decades if I were using the bow. LOL
