Ted Cruz knocks Scott Walker on immigration
Washington Examiner ^ | 4/24/2015 | Drucker

Sen. Ted Cruz on Friday took a shot at rival presidential contender Scott Walker for comments the Wisconsin governor has made regarding immigration policy.

Cruz opposes comprehensive immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship for the estimated 11-12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States. But the Texan is a big proponent of legal immigration and making adjustments to U.S. law that would facilitate more legal immigration. He criticized Walker for suggesting that he supported limiting legal immigration if it has a negative impact on the wages of American workers.

"There is considerable bipartisan agreement outside of Washington that we need to improve and streamline legal immigration so that we can remain a nation that welcomes and celebrates legal immigrants," Cruz said in an interview with the Washington Examiner during a brief campaign swing through Las Vegas.after cost estimates came in higher than anticipated.

I think it is a mistake for any politician to on the one hand embrace amnesty, embrace a pathway to citizenship for those who are here illegally, and on the other hand seek to restrict or punish legal immigrants," Cruz continued. "I am the son of an immigrant who came legally from Cuba. [President Ronald] Reagan referred to legal immigrants as Americans by choice and there is no stronger advocate of legal immigration in the U.S. Senate than I am."

"I think the right approach is to secure the border, follow the rule of law and embrace and improve legal immigration," Cruz said.

Walker has conceded a change of heart on immigration policy as he gears up to launch a 2016 presidential bid. The governor, 47, previously supported a pathway to legal status for illegal immigrants. Now he is opposed. Supporting a pathway to legalization or citizenship could be problematic for a Republican candidate seeking his party's White House nomination.

But in a recent interview with conservative talk show host Glenn Beck, Walker appeared to move farther to the right on immigration than even amnesty hawks like Cruz. Here's what Walker said, as reported by Breitbart. (read more)

In all candor, I must say I really think the trolls don’t have a chance. Here’s the reason: Cruz is dropping substance left and right. This is the sign of a rare but powerful politician.

The first task of leftist activists is to learn the meaning of the word substance.

“A guy I know named Boogie is a brilliant German guy, middle aged, a whiz, can fix anything, great dude, good guy to have around anywhere, anytime.”

That sounds a lot like several American guys I know who have been out of work for years and can’t find a job. I’m sure most of us here know a few personally as well.

Americans first.

There is no reasoning with you, you just respond with nonsense, ‘votes don’t matter, parties are the same, importing millions of liberal voters doesn’t affect anything’ nothing matters in your confused mind, the only thing that matters is to keep those people flowing in from around the world.

You are just spewing gibberish.

Your mind is just mush, I have no idea why you would be on a political site since you don’t think that politics, party differences, and voting, exist.

I guess your only hope for the future is to live in a nation of 2 billion people that can’t speak to each other, and have nothing to say to each other anyway.

I don’t know, granny.

If someone wants to come here and be free and defend freedom, then I cool with that.

I know a few Americans that do not give a flying rip about freedom, and I can’t say that I’m particularly fond of those ones.

There is no reasoning with you. You just respond with nonsense.

Just because you don’t agree with my assessment of things doesn’t make my assessment wrong.

My mind isn’t mush, my mind is just fine. I don’t see things like you see things. I don’t know why you are on a political site when you can’t bear anyone disagreeing with you at all.

And I can’t even speak with you in a nation of 300 million people.

We have nothing to say to each other now, so what difference will more make?

None.

When someone on a political site cannot discuss the vote and voters, and how to change the vote, and doesn’t even think it exists in reality, then what can a normal person do, except recognize that he is talking to one of those internet nut cases.

You don’t make a lick of sense, you support endless immigration, and that seems to be all that you have to say, well you’ve said it.

I never said a vote or voters don’t exist in reality.

You don’t seem to be able to read or comprehend.

I said that there are not two parties, so it doesn’t matter who we vote for, and that is obvious, and I’m not the only one who has said that.

I can’t help that you think the GOP is your friend, and that voting for them is somehow going to advance your agenda. I can’t help that you think voting for the GOP matters at all. I’ve told you that it doesn’t, but your only response is to insult me, which it seems like is how you respond to anyone who doesn’t agree with you.

So yeah, I don’t really know how to talk to someone who believes that the GOP is good for anything other than advancing the government agenda, which is the only thing its ever done at all.

You post anything to avoid admitting that immigration is what keeps the democrat party alive.

I said LIES keep the democrat party alive, and the GOP too.

I’m not sure why you think that I would admit something that you believe and I don’t, but you should keep holding your breath until I do.

Good luck changing the world from your keyboard.

Politics is what we do here at freerepublic.

Campaigns, elections, activism, analyzing the vote and how to change it, and vetting candidates and all the rest.

Saying that they don’t exist, isn’t what this site is about.

Something does seem odd though, that a guy who leans liberal like you do, also supports importing endless millions of democrats.

“If someone wants to come here and be free and defend freedom, then I cool with that.”

Ordinarily I would agree but I fear that those with another agenda having nothing to do with freedom have ruined it for those type of immigrants. Instead they brought as many wretched, disease, uneducated & criminals here, many illegally by our own POTUS. What we have experienced is an invasion not immigration. And not one shot was fired. Our own government did it to us. This is not the immigration we had 100 years ago. This is something else and it is destructive.

We have reached a saturation point that will end in our destruction. It needs to stop and things need to be righted. I don’t think it is a requirement for Americans to take part in this. There is only so much of the rest of the world we can take on.

“Ordinarily I would agree but I fear that those with another agenda having nothing to do with freedom have ruined it for those type of immigrants.”

Well I don’t doubt that is the case at all. Our government doesn’t do anything for the right reasons. It seems to be motivated by true evil, and I definitely do not trust it at all.

I’m stuck though. If you don’t mind a bit of a read, I’ll tell you a story that sticks with me.

Back in the 1990’s, my mom was driving down a street in Metairie, Louisiana during a rain storm when she noticed a number of people, men, women and children, huddled under a tree.

She, being a good Samaritan, stopped and asked them did they need a ride. They spoke no English, they were Croatians. But they did speak German, which she also speaks, so they were able to communicate.

She drove them in her van to their apartment which was about a half mile away. They became very good friends, two families from Croatia and my mom from Deutschland.

Apparently they had been displaced in Croatia by that whole ethnic cleansing thing going on over there in the 90’s. These we Christian people, but one of them, Miladin, had a face that was marked by hard, hard times. I don’t know what this man had seen, but I know it wasn’t pleasant. Super nice guy though.

They had been brought over here by Catholic charities, given a green card, an apartment for X amount of time (not long) and used furniture and help with English lessons. After a bit they would have to pick up all expenses however, and they were having trouble acclimating.

My mom with her German helped teach them English, and with her job as a recruiter helped find them jobs, though nothing special, just work to help pay the bills. Later Miladin became an electrician, and I am not sure what the other man from the other family did, I can’t recall, but he did find a good job.

She helped get their kids into private Christian schools eventually, and things were going well. She would talk to them all the time on the phone in German, and we went to their apartments a few times for holiday dinners. I can’t say I ever knew what their politics were, but it didn’t matter, they had found a home in a much safer country, and that was good.

Sadly it didn’t end as well as it started. For financial reasons, both families ended up moving to Tennessee. I think their jobs caused them to have to move, I’m not 100% sure, but what happened was their children ended up in public schools there, and it brought the lives of those kids straight down. Those schools started filling those kids heads with garbage, and it took hold real fast. Neither one of us has spoken with them since Hurricane Katrina, so I can’t say how they are doing presently, but I hope well.

So having seen that is one of the reasons that I support legal immigration. I wouldn’t want to turn those people away. Let me tell you, they came here with nothing, because nothing was more than they had where they came from. They came from a place where life is real hard, and I’m glad they did.

It is very sad indeed that our government is basically evil and has tried to turn our American systems against America, and they have been pretty much successful in that effort.

But if there is another family out there like the ones I described, then I want them to have a chance to come here. I don’t know what the solution to our scheming government is, or if there even is one. Maybe we are doomed. But some people in this world still see this country as the shining beacon of freedom, and that is a good thing.

Maybe one day that beacon goes out, because of the evil of men, but I don’t want that beacon to go out because we turned it off, because then we would know for sure that it went dark on our watch.

Evidently we were never a real country, we were just fighting Indians and dying and fighting for centuries to carve out this nation, so that we could create the world’s biggest bus stop.

All of it was for nothing, it seems.
