It is true the stores are often a magnet for miscreants. There are some in our area that are simply unsafe to go to at any time of day.

Walmart has eleven thousand stores. I'd not be surprised that a half-dozen have enough problems that closing them, and doing so abruptly, is the best viable option. Maybe the correct conspiracy theory is that there isn't a common denominator between the stores other than the decision to close them, and to do so together and on very short notice.
