Walmart has eleven thousand stores. I'd not be surprised that a half-dozen have enough problems that closing them, and doing so abruptly, is the best viable option. Maybe the correct conspiracy theory is that there isn't a common denominator between the stores other than the decision to close them, and to do so together and on very short notice.

the stores were dumps, losing money. So they closed them fast - they made the SMART business decision.

Not bad for a Mom and Pop store on the west side of the square in Bentonville. Then one day Sam took a chance to buy a series of bankrupt Ben Franklin stores and changed the name from WALTON’S 5&10 to WALMART.
