Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell introduced a bill Tuesday night to extend through 2020 a controversial surveillance authority under the Patriot Act.

The move comes as a bipartisan group of lawmakers in both chambers is preparing legislation to scale back the government’s spying powers under Section 215 of the Patriot Act.

Why bother voting for these guys.

I don't vote for Republicrats or Demuplicans & surveillance/privacy issues are one of the top reasons.

The pro-coal message was why McWeasal won. I didn’t vote for him in the primary or general but obama’s war on coal has decimated the economy in eastern Kentucky, it’s an economic wasteland.

I’m all for cutting the ballz off this Patriot Act. It isn’t being used for the intended purpose.

Quite the contrary. It is being used exactly the way they intended to. Of course what they said it was for was something completely different.

Throw in the TSA, the DHS and fire every top person in the FBI, the CIA and NSA for good measure.

Put them all in jail and bar them permanently from government service.

Point taken. I was assuming they had better motives than what they are apparently are.

“It comes from a very ancient democracy, you see....”
“You mean, it comes from a world of lizards?”
“No,” said Ford, who by this time was a little more rational and coherent than he had been, having finally had the coffee forced down him, “nothing so simple. Nothing anything like so straightforward. On its world, the people are people. The leaders are lizards. The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people.”
“Odd,” said Arthur, “I thought you said it was a democracy.”
“I did,” said Ford. “It is.”
“So,” said Arthur, hoping he wasn’t sounding ridiculously obtuse, “why don’t the people get rid of the lizards?”
“It honestly doesn’t occur to them,” said Ford. “They’ve all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they’ve voted in more or less approximates to the government they want.”
“You mean they actually vote for the lizards?”
“Oh yes,” said Ford with a shrug, “of course.”
“But,” said Arthur, going for the big one again, “why?”
“Because if they didn’t vote for a lizard,” said Ford, “the wrong lizard might get in.”

Lizard...Hitlery...it all makes sense now... :) I got the chance to meet Adams just shortly before his death. Got my copy of Hitchhiker signed, and got a pic with him and Terry Jones.
