I don’t think any of those articles really suggests that Cruz supports amnesty or illegal immigration. At most, the articles take bits and pieces of what Cruz has said or done and tried to make it look contradictory or passively supporting. The NY Times & MSNBC are not even reputable sources so I’ll only address the AmericanThinker.

The AmericanThinker article states that Cruz proposed amendments to the Gang of 8 immigration bill that would prevent naturalization, citizenship, and any benefits for illegal immigrants. He proposed these amendments because he could not prevent the legislation from moving forward. He said he would only vote for the bill if his amendments passed, which would have been poison pills for the libs and eventually kill the bill anyways. However, the amendments didn’t pass so he voted against the bill. Cruz’s stated intention was to kill the bill or, if the bill was projected to pass, then to make the best out of a bad bill by including his amendments.

Cruz has only advocated that certain illegals could be allowed to stay and given a TEMP legal work status for jobs in industries that may be reliant on illegal labor (i.e. agriculture). However, even this temporary legal status would have strict limits and would prevent the illegals from obtaining any permanent status or benefits AND would only be implemented AFTER the border is secured.

Basically, as two of the articles stated, Cruz has not supported illegal amnesty, but has supported reform of our legal immigration system and reform of our temp guest worker program. He also supports all illegals, even if given TEMP work statuses, to leave the country, wait their turn, and legally apply in order to legally immigrate to the U.S. permanently. This position is NOT amnesty and does NOT support any illegal immigration.

We have to be careful not to confuse amnesty with legal immigration/temp worker reform. Also, please don’t believe the lib media about anything regarding any conservative candidate.

Typed like a modern Texan: giving work permits to illegals is amnesty.

And to say the NYTimes isn’t credible quoting Cruz is laughable.

The MSNBC article confirmed from the Cruz camp that this reporting from the Texas Tribune was accurate:

“Asked about what to do with the people here illegally, however, he stressed that he had never tried to undo the goal of allowing them to stay.

“The amendment that I introduced removed the path to citizenship, but it did not change the underlying work permit from the Gang of Eight,” he said during a recent visit to El Paso. Cruz also noted that he had not called for deportation or, as Mitt Romney famously advocated, self-deportation.

Cruz said recent polling indicated that people outside Washington support some reform, including legal status without citizenship. He said he was against naturalization because it rewarded lawbreakers and was unfair to legal immigrants. It also perpetuates illegal crossings, he added.

Besides barring citizenship while instituting some level of legalization for those here already, Cruz has proposed increasing the number of green cards awarded annually, to 1.35 million from 675,000. He also wants to eliminate the per-country limit that he said left applicants from countries like Mexico, China and India hamstrung when they tried to gain legal entry to this country.”

You Texans may have surrendered to the onslaught, but the rest of us haven’t.

We also shouldn’t confuse legal immigration with good immigration. Tens of millions of third world migrants are bad news, whether they go through legal channels or not.
